Aare tu samajhta nahi. Apan hamesha problems pe crib karte hain and good things are taken for granted. And am being no exception. So usually I write when I’ve to crib. ;)….and above all I lack the ability to give a meaning to a piece of writing or say to give a prelude or concept. I guess it’s accep...table to make a comment look like an unpolished review. But it’s a crime to write a review that looks like an extended comment. :)……. Have you gone overboard? Oh! not at all……..you’re bang on. I can understand Thakur’s reaction though. A friend of mine sitting besides me had the same reaction. Not much of twist and turn. Even I felt a little let down at the climax, but realized soon after that it’s a different perspective of looking at it. It always doesn’t have to be our way. There can be a new way and yet be tricky and exciting. We’re so used to the fixed ways of seeing suspense that it’s difficult for us to accept something unusual. Anyways, to each his own. And who’s complaining anyway, as long as we’re getting our dose of entertainment. What I liked about the movie is that the overall look it has maintained is very retro yet contemporary. Nowhere it's unnecessarily flashy. By the way, you’re right……I enjoyed the 'diesel guy' scene and of course the train scene too……..very detailed. Cheers! Read More

Man! I tell ya………the movie is daaaamn gooooooood. As far as suspense is concerned, I haven’t seen a better one in recent times. For me, performance wise Shardul (Zakir Hussain) is the clear winner……an absolute delight. Neil’s personality suits the character well. That makes him look good. Otherwi...se I wouldn’t give much credit to him. It’s the director’s magic. As you said, rest of the actors do their job well and have significant screen presence to their credit. Nobody overshadows the other. Again kudos! to the director. There are few moments in the movie, which you surely would have enjoyed. - Johny dancing to the music - Prakash at her wife’s feet - Govind Namdeo taking Johney's snap in his mobile - Anything that’s to do with Shardul. :) Am sure I missed many here. As I told you, this was on my watch list, I read your review after watching the movie. You see, I had to keep the suspense element(for the movie) intact and be fair to your review as well....;) And your review is a tribute to this piece of art. Very apt….missing this surely would be a crime. :)….. Cheers! Kalparaj. Read More

Great piece of writing and profound thought process as usual. Enjoyed every bit of it. You've echoed my(perhaps many others) thoughts on the fickleness of the Indian fans and the irresponsible nature of the media. Positives to be drawn from the tournament: - T20 is the future of cricketing en...tertainment. The doubts about the success of T20 have been put to rest. It has really caught up the imagination of the cricket fans all over the world. - It’s good to see that “International T20” is not all about batsmen and unusually high scoring match. Quite understandably the average scoring rate is 8 per over, which is normal. And contrary to the common belief, bowlers do have a huge role to play and there is enough drama to relish. - I wouldn’t mind to see a T20 world cup every year. - (For India) Dhoni’s captaincy, the composure he maintains and the calming effect he has on others. Amazing…. absolutely amazing. Some concerns: - The popularity of One Day format is in serious jeopardy. It needs immediate renovation to make it more interesting. (The span of 20 – 40 over period has no takers. Absolutely nobody). - The only catch in the T20 format is that it needs at least 3/4 teams to make the tournament interesting. You just can’t have a two team T20 series. That would be boring. I did scream at the peak of my voice at the fall of each wicket and when we won each match. But I just can’t get carried away and start reading too much into us being the T20 world champions. I surely am ecstatic and that’s about it. A little bit of consistency in the future would definitely bring in the pride element. Looking forward to see more of such thoughtful writings from you. Cheers! Kalparaj. Read More

Yeh movie bani kaise? Kuchh toh gadbad hai……100% hai……ab kya hai, woh toh waqt hi batayega But what’s more important is Ramu ki aag kaun bujhaye? Nithya, I appreciate the attention. :) Cinema can’t survive only on reality. So a bit of manipulation is always required. Now what matters is how much manipulation the audience can take. It again varies from person to person. For the serious audience it is absolutely necessary that the degree ...of manipulation be in line with his level of intelligence. One would certainly react if his/her intelligence is being challenged. That doesn’t mean the rest of the world should stop seeing the point. Irrespective of the public opinion what we must see is that if that unorthodox viewpoint makes sense. If it does, then we must let it be. The rest can make merry anyway. Khosla ka Ghosla was again full of twists n turns. It certainly makes the story interesting but not interesting enough. After a point you feel, too much of manipulation is killing the very purpose of its existence. Thanks for the information about the guys. Nobody is literally calling these guys “the villains”. It’s a mind game after all between the director and the audience. So it’s just about looking at the entire thing from a different perspective. Kudos! to Aditya chopra for giving the financial freedom to the director. Now is that good enough? Is your scope of responsibility limited to that? Being a bit idealistic, how about taking care of the integrity of the story/script. I know it’s too much effort. But somebody’s gotta do it. That’s why we’ve movies like Lagaan and then we’ve CDI. So you see, there is more to movie making than what meets the eye. Just read your review. Great observation nevertheless. :) Cheers, Kalparaj.Read More

Fantastico!! is all I can say. Often I wonder, if your viewpoint will stop impressing me ever. The best part was 'Jaideep Sahni and Aditya Chopra are probably sharing...........'. I just loved that take.....:))......one needs to see beyond the movie and the characters....i.e. the director's mind........... I’ve seen the movie and perhaps had similar feelings, if not the same. I thought the movie lacked characterization and “enough drama”, quite unlike Lagaan. One just can’t talk about both the movies in the same breath. I was taken aback by some remarks like this is far better than Lagaan. Kabir Khan being the protagonist should have had more depth to him than what was shown and at times his dialogues were found wanting for inspiration. At the same time it had its moment of glory, which I chose to enjoy unbiased. Overall it was a enjoyable movie, the drawbacks notwithstanding i.e. if I don't become too critical. ;) About the audience being manipulated, most of us don't really think that much, as long as we are getting our dose of emotional bullshit. E.g Emraan Hashmi had to be shown as a villain in the climax(Gangster) to gain audience sympathy for the lead pair. Manipulation at it’s best. The audience came out without a bitter feeling towards the protagonist (because that’s what they wanted) and never knew when its intelligence was taken for a ride. Our mind is mostly engulfed by sheer escapism and false ego. False ego, because of the belief that nobody really can manipulate me. I’m supposed to be a smart guy. So we usually fail to see beyond the obvious or rather we don’t want to. So, I think it’s only fair enough for us greedy people, to expect more from you in the days to come. Way to go! When it comes to rocking boats, how could you miss Aarti Chhabria? She is undoubtedly one of the yummiest in the business. Even an eyeful/mouthful is never good enough. For the character, she fits (physically of course) the bill. The skull-braking scene by Maya was spine chilling. My immediate re...action was to hold my jaws. Shootout scene is supposed to be the heart of the movie and I thought does meet the expectation. I think that’s what I enjoyed the most in the movie. The phone conversation of each of the gangsters with their loved ones in the climax does add a human angle to the situation and is very moving. Me too liked the Ganpat song. Picturised well. Boos: Tushar kapoor, Arbaaz Khan and Neha Dhupia. Often I wonder, how can they make a mockery of themselves and watch it too, let alone the viewers. Vivek Oberoi should change his name to “Déjà vu”….Chandu revisited. It’s even more irritating to watch him going gung-ho about this role in the interviews. Three months of research into the character? Put me on gunpoint to buy this crap. The conversation between Dhingra and the three cops was kinda thanda. Not so engaging. I thought it needed more fire. The playback singer goes “Ganpat ganpat” in low volume and Rohit roy is seen lip-syncing it at the peak of his voice. :)) Tushar kapoor threatening Sunil Shetty in the gym. It’s like Jerry barking at Tom. :))….Jerry still would do a better job. Way to go!! No wonder the comment section is swelling up. Cheers! Kalparaj.Read More

.....my first ever on your page. Tanki ke kutte…….lol…. The “Intro” was fabulous. It gives a great account of the essence of the movie (as I’ve seen it already). The movie is not even close to the best in its genre, but surely worth a watch. Two stars justified. Another half wouldn’t hurt eith...er. I’m not a great fan of Sanjay Gupta movies. I find his style halfhearted and pretentious. He tries hard to ape the west and make his movies look sleek, but never goes all the way. Yes, I’m talking about Kaante, Musafir, Zinda. It always lacks the punch and good actors. If you notice, his movies are nothing minus Sanjay Dutt. He always is the saving grace with some terrific performances. For this movie, I liked the effort of keeping it desi, yet sleek. Not a big fan of Apoorva Lakhia though, I liked this effort. I don’t think, showing Khan’s family angle was totally meaningless. Yes, Neha Dhupia playing the part surely was. As for the detailing errors in the movie, I missed them I guess. AB lends nothing to the character, though it’s a cakewalk on his part to go through the predictable emotions. Hoorahs: Completely agree about Sanju baba. He is like an old wine. Getting better with age and of course looks neat indeed. If one wants to see performance and doesn’t like Amrita Singh, then he/she must see a doctor. May be she wasn’t looking her best, but given the character she looked good enough and just rocked the frame (am lil apprehensive about rocking the boat though) she was in. She’s easily one of my all time favourites. Shabbir ahluwalia, usually overdramatic in the soap operas, has managed to keep his emotions under check this time and has done a decent job. Special mention for the debutant. No big deal though. Rohit Roy’s only moment of glory was the scene in the climax where he regrets all his wrong doings in front of his parents. Very convincing. Rest was just average stuff. continued.....Read More
