That's what Beckham is. He's (or rather, was) good only with his free kicks, and that too, right footers. Can't recall Becks ever using his left.
Though he's talented (he was good enough to be in the Man U 1st team), he wasted it.
An average player, made great by an efficient PR team.

Perfect analysis of the team... Well, I thought Hargraves was OK n so was Lennon ..wonder why Sven boy didn't give him enough time on the field. Theo Walcott had a good vacation in Germany..
Lampard,Gerrard,Ferdinand ... all the pre World Cup hyped up big nam...es flopped... and am not even mentioning 'Mr. Golden balls' here .... made a big show by stepping down as the captain .. well he wasn't going to retain the armband anyways... Sometimes I wonder why so many ppl (sp. women) just luuuuuvv him...
I think Terry should be made the captain... though he didn't have a super WC, he's got much better leadership skills....
England footie team (and fans too) -- stop cribbing abt the ref, Ronaldo n everything else... and yea, plz learn to put the ball at the back of the net..

heartbreak for janfigo last night after Portugal was dumped out of the World Cup.
First Argentina, then Germany and now Portugal, all my favourites are out. (Lucky me.. I didn't bet on the semi finals)
I guess I will root for Les Bleus now... coz Zizou rocks... (hey that doesn't mean I am switchi...ng loyalty ;-) )

This was the first time I bet with my friends :-)
You are right abt France ... they were criticized by one and all, and here they are in the semi finals... out to prove the '98 win wasn't a fluke.
Portugal (my favs) are gonna be tense, afterall its their first major semi final (they were in the ...finals of the Euro.. but thats a different story). Wish Figo lifts that glittering trophy on the 9th.
Germany Always dangerous. They raise their game in such major tournaments (they may lose friendlies 5-0 or 6-0). And they have Klinsi (another janfigo favourite).
Italia I personally find them boring to watch ... exellent defence though!
Once again :
The fan(atic) in me says : Germany v Portugal Finals
But, probably it would be Germany v France.

Brasil and England are out!!! No offence to anyone, but those results did fill up my wallet ;-)
Even with all the hype surrounding England, Brasil and Netherlands, I never thought Eng or Brasil win. Had hoped to see Netherlands do well...
Would love to see Germany v Portugal in the Finals :-)
Th...ough my heart says, its gonna be Germany v France.

You have hit the nail on the head my friend!
valid points there. India can be a football power only when ppl stop obsessing abt cricket and cricket players and open their eyes to reality.
lets face it... you can count the cricket playing countries... thats a limited number of countries, and to be ...on top (we are not even #1 there) is no big deal.
No offence to anyone, but the real reason why India sucks in football rankings is bcoz Football is a very physical game. I have seen quite a few NFL games and have noticed the players are scared to take on the african players. (there are quite a few africans playing here)
What really needs to be done is as u have pointed out.. look at other countries, their leagues, the youth system there etc and try to implement such things here. The developement has to start at the grassroot level... its the opposite in India... no one cares abt the grassroot... they all want the branches ;-)

well, yes I did miss Torres n Tevez. But from the Spain team, I would rate Cesc Fabregas, Reyes higher than Torres. About Tevez, the team is full of such brilliant players, that you tend to miss one or the other.

is probably the most hyped team in the world. They do have some good players like Terry, Lampard, Gerrard but overall the team is an underachiever.
Their captain needs to be changed, some one like Terry or Gerrard.

ohh.. am very late for this review. have been busy .... all the football (i hate the word soccer .... its football , u dummies !!!!) has kept me busy ...
well, there have been some really thrilling matches in just 2 days!
Thought T&T showed a lot of character vs Sweden... holding for almost an hou...r with 10 men. Hislop the goalie was as amazing as when he plays for West Ham.
Argentina (my favs. this yr along with Portugal) did well vs Cote d'Ivorie :-) . England v Paraguay ... kuch dumm nahi tha! Expected a lot from England n the stars.
But for me the performer of the day : Shaka Hislop! It was the day of the underdogs.

Well, that was my observation... alternating winners! Just hoping this time Argentina carve their name on the trophy. I like their game among the South American teams.
Among the Asian teams, my bet is on Iran and South Korea going past Rd1.
Germany : they are dangerous. Remember in 2002 they wer...e labelled as the weakest German team i n a world cup and they reached the finals. Home support this time... surely they are going past Rd1 and I hope for a solid performance from them too!

yes, u are right about Iran. They have some players like Ali Daei, Karimi etc playing in the German league. They have defeated USA before (in 1990 or 94 .. not sure).
They are one of the dark horses along with Cote d'Ivorie and Ukraine.
