@Route66, Yes. You are right about Ford design. Their cars are more functional than being flashy. To me the Ford Fiesta still appeals good than many other sedans. Moreover, Ford I believe has not manufactured reactive products -- Like for instance, the Fiesta was in development from scratch to sui...t India. And once Fiesta was a hit, we immediately saw reactive products like Aveo, Verna, SX4, etc. I believe the Figo is a well planned and thought out design. As I said earlier, thankfully Ford does not have too many cars in a segment and their concentration on a particular product is really good.Read More

Regarding I10 and I20 I somehow felt that they are the new names of Santro and Getz. Need to check the engine specs

I am not an expert...but I believe the modern age diesels dont require anything other than the scheduld maintenance services. Please do check with some experts on this field as well. Regarding the petrol and diesel cost comparison on an EMI and monthly running cost basis, I didnt also know abo...ut it until team BHP gave me a clue. If I were to make a choice in the Ford Figo, I would suggest going for the diesel. Because, petrol prices are going to burn our pockets in the coming years and if you think about long term ownership say 5-6 years, diesel is good. It also depends on whether you drive more than 1500 kms a month (I dont...but still went for the diesel for the overall cost savings). Moreover as far as Figo diesel is concerned, it is the engine that is already proven for 5 years in the market, housed by the Ford Fiesta diesel variant. When we sell our cars, there is more demand in the market for diesel. So by all means, I would go for the diesel. If you are into changing to new cars every 1.5 years or something and dont drive more than 1500 kms a month, then petrol is a good option.Read More

Sorry about Chevy Beat. I saw the car and thought it was a coupe version in a hatchback. My friend clarified this last week itself. Since it was a petrol car, I didn't look into much details about it.

The Maruti showroom gave me a RITZ to test drive saying that it has the same engine as Swift. And Ritz has European design. The Ritz is a tall boy model and for me with my height, when I drove the car, had some serious pain the foot when I had to use the clutch. Not sure what was wrong here but the ...Ritz totally put me off here. Did anyone experience the same foot pain problem in Ritz?Read More

The salesman at Kairali ford, gave me some extra sheets containing comparison of service and parts cost for Figo vs Swift, i10 and Vista. As per the data provided, the petrol version is 60% cheaper to maintain than Swift and 22% cheaper to maintain than i10. Figo is also 60% cheaper to maintain than... the smaller Santro and 15.3% cheaper when compared to the Wagon R. The non scheduled service and accident repairs are also on paper cheaper than i10 and Swift. Same goes for diesel too. I will try to scan those pages and upload it here.Read More

That reminds me of my decision to go for a diesel from a cost perspective. Lets take the Ford Figo as an example here. 1.2 petrol titanium against 1.4 diesel titanium. Let us estimate the monthly usage as 1500 KMs (national average). Let us assume we would pay 2 lacs as down payment, petrol price as... 50/ltr and diesel as 38/ltr. 1.2 petrol 1.4 diesel On Road price 491175 586923 Fuel Economy 13 20 Monthly fuel cost 5769 2850 EMI@10% for 3 yrs 9318 12382 Total monthly cost 15087 15232 The extra money that we pay for the diesel is very neglible. Even if you drive only 1000 kms per month, I would suggest better go for the diesel as it is a proven engine and the difference in terms of monthly cost is very neglible. In the long run, diesel would be better in terms of value for money once loan is completed.Read More

Regarding Ford, its a welcome move to stop the confusing Fusion (same goes with Chevy for stopping SRV which I never saw on the roads) which was in no position to compete in the small car segment. I also like Ford's approach of not having too many cars to confuse buyers (read Swift...Estilo...Zen......Alto...Wagon R...Ritz...A Star) and stay focused on a particular brand. Ford's current lineup of Figo, Icon, Fiesta and Endeavour is pretty decent and as buyers we only wish that Ford establishes Figo as their flagship Indian small car for years to come.Read More

I am 6 ft, 4 and felt comfortable in my last Indian car -- which happens to be a 1.6 Ford Fiesta. I had to sell that car when I moved out of the country. So my only buying factor was comfort in driving without feeling cramped. So I went online and started listing the cars and shortlisted them. T...Read more

@AskIyengar, When did Power windows take precedence over Rear Legroom for a small family car? Haven't the basic models of all small cars and also the 2nd level variant had only scroll down windows? This shameless Maruti does not have a top end variant in their diesel cars. When I asked the salesma...n, he gave some gyan about Maruti is middle class buyers product...blah..blah..blah. How many times, we would drive with windows down? Plus how many cars are giving ABS, EBD, Airbags, Bluetooth music system, Great fuel economy for 5.8 lacs? What is Maruti's agenda in the diesel segment? What statement does it make to the buyers? Hey...buy our cool diesel engine car...but please forget about your safety....And they dont put even music system in that car. I am sure they would void the electronics warranty if we install our own music system.Read More
