I have to disagree with this one! I've been using AMEX since 2001 and do not have a single instance of unfriendly customer care interaction. In fact its quite a contrast with Standard Chartered (with who I had to threaten recourse to Consumer Courts just to get it cancelled, after having paid all... charges in full!) and some interaction I've seen with HDFC Bank cards and some others. All my queries have been answered to promptly and all promises to call back or respond over email have been fulfilled. In the most recent instance I called to report a renewal card package received all opened up and I wasn't sure of my options when the exec himself suggested cancelling my card and sending me a replacement - that arrived within 2 days, as promised. I do have an issue with its acceptability but that does not detract from the highly professional handling of all customers. Quite regrettable that this author had an unpleasant experience - I wonder why (s)he wouldn't post some of the 'Lots' of Cons here or give details here rather that ask for mails to be sent to an email address! I've been using the card for about 6 years now - and only because every year one phone call is needed to get them to waive the annual fee! I totally agree with the acceptability point and there have been numerous occasions when I've had to use my wife's VISA card because AMEX was either not accepted... or the retailer was reluctant to - apparently the transaction fee is higher on AMEX than others. If you call and complain, the call center promises to cancel the trader's account - further reducing the already few places that accept it!!! High fee - low acceptance - if you still like the card threaten them with cancelling it and at least have it for free ;)Read More
