Automatically programmed DUSTBALLS instead of DUSTBINS for segratating dry and wet waste. My initiative for INTEL INNOVATORS OF TOMORROW CONTEST for the TIMES OF INDIA
One can press the button for wet waste and WET AREA opens up and one can put the wet waste there .
One can press the button for dry waste and DRY AREA opens up and one can put the dry waste there.Futher the dry area segregates according to weight & area into
a)newspaper,b)thermocol,c)glass,d)chewing gums,e)rubber,f)wood pieces,g)leather,h)metals,i)plastic,j)cloth,k)pampers . Even if wet plastic is thrown into wet waste ,it automatically goes into dry area
The height of the DUSTBALLS depends on the generation of waste .The generation of waste depends on number of members in the family and also on the socio –economic condition of the family .For some families DUSTBALLS of height 1 feet would suffice and for some families DUSTBALLS of 1.5 or 2 feet would suufice..
However the important point to be noticed is whether 1/4th of the area of DUSTBALL should be kept for WET WASTE or 1/3rd of the area should be kept for WET WASTE .Some consumers may buy DUSTBALL with ½th area as WET WASTE, if more WET WASTE is generated in the household or commercial area.
On the other side if some SPECIAL ELASTIC RUBBER is used for WET AREA ,more quantity of wet waste can be dumped in the WET AREA without setting the area of WET WASTE .
Being machine based from inside the DUSTBALL must have hard rubber on the outside so that it can be cleaned and washed every day.The inner lining of the WET AREA must also be rubber based bag or any other best substitute so that it can be cleaned every day .
when the DUSTBALL is 90% full ,the screen shows DRY AREA FULL for DRY WASTE and the screen shows WET AREA FULL for WET WASTE .and automatically legs appear on the place from the DUSTBALL showing it is ready to be dump its contents.
DUSTBALL walks towards the basement or socities ground through staircase
When DUSTBALL wants to dump DRY WASTE at the society GARBAGE COLLECTION AREA or at the RECYCLING UNIT OF THE HOUSING SOCIETY or RECYLING UNIT OF THE DISTRICT a door from dry area slants towards the ground and all contents are forced out ( JUST AS THE FORCE APPLIED IN VACCUM CLEANER for suction from downwards )and the door closes.It can be programmed to dump its content in the list given in its memory of RECYCLING UNIT with proper direction chipped in its memory.eg throw paper in first door of the unit at the plastic

When DUSTBALL wants to dump WET WASTE at the VERMICOMPOST PITS or ADVANCED LOCALITY MANAGEMENT CENTER ,a door from wet area opens up and all the contents are forced out towards the ground.When the wet area is empty ,it automatically cleans itself from inside with a spray of water and closes itself.
There are 276 vermicompost pits in Mumbai AND 643 ALM(ADVANCED LOCALITY MANAGEMENT
Advantages of DUSTBALLS
1.Reduction of WET WASTE to be carried towards the dumping grounds.as the WET WASTE is dumped at source..
2.Reduction in transport cost by MCGM(MUNCIPAL CORPORATION OF GREATER MUMBAI) as no trucks would be required.
3.Reduction in manual operation at all levels for RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL AREAS for elders,childrens,pregnant ladies ,cleaners,dumpers..There are around 5800 community BINS in Mumbai city,which can be replaced with DUSTBALLS.
4.Reduction of 2 plastic dustbins in every HOUSEHOLD AND COMMERCIAL UNIT
5.Reduction of HEALTH PROBLEMS for MCGM personnel employed to some extent as wet waste is dumped at source.
6.Reduction in POLLUTION OF GROUND WATER near dumping grounds due to WET WASTE as wet waste is segregated and dumped at source.
7.With this product there will be IMPLEMENTATIONof waste segration at source.
8.This dustball strikes a balance between ENVIRONMENT CONCERN and ECONOMIC GROWTH.
9.Slums are considered illegal by BMC ,so they have acquired the tag of NO SERVICE AREA..Baiganwadi in Govandi slum area is considered breeding ground for diseases.hence DUSTBALLS must be set up here for slums which are not regularized..
Along with ALM, VERMICOMPOSTING, SLUM ADOPTION SCHEME ,RECYCLING UNITS FOR DRY WASTE ,RECYCLING UNITS FOR DEBRIS ,DUSTBALLS and AUTOMATIC COLD BOX FOR CLLECTION OF SEEDS .In future ,DUMPING GROUND will be a thing of the past.
This is only an idea.This product has not been developed but in future it may be developed by future technological experts in india
