World Breastfeeding Week: Importance, Benefits and

Breastfeeding is one of the most important for the infants. People still do have different opinions on this practice.


Breastfeeding Week is observed from August 1 to August 8. The theme this year is learning how breastfeeding makes people value well-being from the beginning of life. It also focuses on how to respect each other in the world.


Most of the Doctors and general physicians around the world recommend breastfeeding as the source of nutrition for the baby for at least initial 6 months. However, a majority of new mothers finds it difficult to breastfeed their babies.


Importance and Benefits:


Almost everyone emphasizes the importance of breastfeeding. But not all are aware of the reasons why the practice is important for the baby. The following points explain the benefit of this wonder nourishment for the baby:


It helps supply all the important nutrients to the baby


Prevents diarrhea, constipation and upset stomach and easy for digestion


Boosts the immune system of the baby and helps protect against infection


Provides a protection against allergies and diseases


Breastfed babies grow normal and healthier


It is also important for the mothers. In addition to establishing a strong and a beautiful bond with the baby, it has the following benefits for the mother:

It comes naturally


Fact:


Although breastfeeding is a natural phenomenon, it does not mean that it is entirely easy. It might need a bit of practice initially. There are several medical centers across the country that can provide advice on breastfeeding and lactation.


Myth 2:


Breastfeeding hurts


Fact:


Most of them think that it is painful. It is okay to feel the tenderness initially. However, if the pain lasts for long then it is advisable to consult a doctor. Look for signs of bleeding or cracked nipples and immediately consult the doctor.


Myth 3:


It acts as a birth control method


Fact:


Breastfeeding may inhibit ovulation in some women, however, it should not be considered as a sure shot method of preventing pregnancy. Taking a progesterone pill may impact the supply and production of milk. Therefore, it is best to use barrier control method of birth control.


Myth 4:


It makes breasts sag


Fact:


Take a chill pill. There is no evidence to date that suggests that breastfeeding makes breasts sag over a period of time. In addition, it does not even make the cup size smaller.
