Monsoon is finally here! We finally bid goodbye to the scorching heat and summer!

June 15th through September 30th, defined as "The Monsoon season" is a beautiful period that has its charms- the rain showers, the cool weather and the reason to wear jackets, carry colourful umbrellas and to enjoy hot beverages and stay cozy!

While we are relieved from the extremely harsh heat and sweaty summer, it has its own hidden dangers, mainly in the form of diseases and certain health risks. The damp and filthy conditions in this rainy season play a host of diseases like malaria, dengue, typhoid, conjunctivitis, diarrhea and pneumonia, especially when your immunity power is at its lowest.

Here are a few tips that you can follow in order to stay healthy during this tricky season:

Practice Cleanliness!

Bacteria and viruses spread during this season and you are likely to get infected easily. Wash your hands as frequently and take a bath each time you get wet in the rain. Carry a clean napkin to wipe your face, resist the urge to scratch yourself.

Cover Up!

Cover yourselves to stay protected against infections. There might be dirty puddles and clogged gutters on your way and see to that you protect yourselves from contaminated elements.

Keep harmful mosquitoes out!

Eliminate stagnant water in the surroundings where the mosquito population grows during the season. You could also opt to slather some mosquito repellent over your body while going outdoors.

Eat Healthy!

The atmospheric humidity being high in the season, the body?s digestive capacity goes down. Consume a healthy diet that is rich in nutrients and antioxidants. Most Doctors advice to avoid raw foods, Street food- pre-cut items cooked/sold in the open air, Fried foods, excess of fish & meat and heavy curries. Drink plenty of water and consume herbal tea.

Care extra for your skin & hair:

Cleanse your skin regularly. Opt for mild soap-free cleansers and natural products for your skin. Since your hair stays wet for a long time, you might suffer from dandruff and itchy scalp. Neem oil can serve as a good remedy. Use hair dryers, but keep it minimal. Keep your hair simple, clean and dry. Most skin problems are treatable and do not hesitate to visit your dermatologist.

Take precautionary measures!

Do not walk barefooted or wear wet shoes, especially if you?re diabetic. If you are an asthmatic, avoid staying around wet walls- The fungus that grows on it can harm you! Stay informed about medical centers and ambulance services in your area during emergencies.
