The new year is almost here and Whatsapp wants to be a part of some people's new Year resolutions.
After reading the discontinuation of support on old smartphones, at least a few people might get have to make new year phone resolutions.
Earlier this year, Whatsapp had made an announcement that it was going to stop extending support to outdated smartphones. the announcement said that Whatsapp will stop running on the primitive smartphones which included iPhone, Windows Phone, Nokia, Android, and BlackBerry. However, after some time they said that it will be extending support for BlackBerry 10, BlackBerry OS, Nokia Symbian and Nokia S40 until next year June. In spite of that, many old smartphones will lose the support of the popular messaging applications
For android, WhatsApp will be ending support for devices which are running on android 2.1 and android 2.2 while for windows devices with windows 7 will cease to get support. Talking about IOS devices, the iPhone 3Gs and iPhone which still run on IOS6 will be devoid of support. In android, there are way too less phones with that specification.
According to the data of google's dashboard which was released in November this year, only 0.1 percent smartphones still run on android froyo.
While most of us might need not worry beacuse jellybean and ice cream sandwich are still supported, my heart goes out to my frugal friends who will now be forced to upgrade their smartphone
