We are safe, for now.

We are the fortunate ones who are safe, for now. I am stunned, confused and scared at what is happening to my city and its people, and wondering what will happen next.

What frightens me more than the terrorists and their senseless acts of terrorism is the sheer apathy displayed by our government and the politicians in charge, who make media-friendly appearances, mouth well-rehearsed clichés and conveniently disappear, till the next tragedy strikes Mumbai.

I no longer qualify as a resilient Mumbai-kar. Texting family and friends, panicking when you can’t get through to them and exhaling with relief only when everyone gets home safely wasn’t part of the plan. I am exhausted by consciously living under a swinging axe, waiting for it to fall again and again and again

I just want to live a life that is safe and not peppered with bomb blasts, terrorist attacks and other related activities.

I hope God is listening.
