The Teacher :
It was about a week back on 18th and 19th we planned a Batch get together of 1982-86 batch of ECE students . I reached Vizag a day before as I wanted to meet an old outstanding Teacher (class 10 Maths and English), Shri MVS Kameswara Rao who I always felt ,turned my life so did those of many others.
Me and my wife rang up on the day before and decided to meet him on 17th (Friday). As we were about to reach his son's home my 75 Yr old teacher came walking to the nearest Jn , to receive us, lest we should end up searching his flat. After an hr of mutual admiration, frank talk and Nostalgia over Horlicks, we left after taking the blessings, me with genuine tears in my eyes.
Next day the happy master called back and conveyed his heart felt thanks for giving him the pleasure of meeting an old favorite student and wished it would happen many times over. This Teacher Received National award in Teaching from the Hon. President of India way back in 70s.
The Professors:
Next day we had breakfast with our old (25 Yr+) batch mates at Waltair club, Vizag and proceeded to AU college of Engg (ECE-Dept). What awaited was a shabby stinking chamber of an emaciated HOD (a teaching Astt in our days) who was in a hurry to leave his chamber and wanted us to rushthrough. Though we dont remember if we gathered any knowledge as students from this guy , we were at our best listening to his unfocused banter; poor Gentlemen that we were.
As if this was not bad enough, our next tryst was with a Lecturer (now a PhD and senior Professor). The moment we entered the chamber, (which was open doors type) , our enthusiastic introduction met with a face of inexplicable mix of scorn, frustration and restlessness.Our invitation for Dinner met with a stern " No one told me in advance". It is not long there after that we realized that we were unwelcome intruders and left the chamber in a hurry.
This is the story of a spectrum of Interactions between an old student and his Teacher(s) within 24 Hrs. Can we say every guru is worthy of " Gururbrahma, GururVishnu, GururdEvo Maheswarah, Guru saakshaat parabrahma, Tasmaisri Guravennamah..?"
Iam sure the second group is not. God will shun them from his abodes if not You and me.
