If you happen to visit Chandigarh do visit Sukhna Lake . Ask anyone in Chandigarh where the lake is . its an artificial lake oval shaped. spring and autumn time is best time to walk on the lake. There is a wide concrete road that takes you from the starting point to the regulator(dam). Dam is the end point of the lake theoretically but practically there is more to just lake. the road is 2.341 kms long. there is a joggers trail also that run along the lake till the regulator.
its a nice place with backdrop of shiwalik hills .
secret forest trail:- on reaching the regulator there is path on your left that is not paved but kutcha . If you follow that path for 3 minutes you would reach t junction. on your left is another kutcha road that goes to migratory bird watching side. But on your left is the real fun forest trail. go left for 5 minutes. you will see jungle will start. After the checkpost real jungle will start.
on both your sides you will notice hundreds of trees and bushes. environment becomes quiet and peaceful after the checkpost. for the initial 500 metres your mind wont register any fear. but as you come close to 1 kms inside jungle . forest sounds of various animals will become audible. I personally have seen sambar, peacocks, various varieties of birds inside the jungle. it will take you 35 minutes to cross the jungle .There are absolutely no construction inside the jungle leaving the forest department post. Try not to go alone in evening as the forest guard near the end of the forest trail usually locks down the gate. so you are left with no option to either jump over 8 foot wall or go back through the jungle which I think you will never want.
