Well I have been the parth2111 of Mouthshut Portal for over more than 3 years now and in these three years I have been trying to Rate on the Reviews pretty responsibly because I know "Wrong Rating will give wrong impact with overall rating of the product as well as Mouthshut". This is how I rate the Products here -
If I read Review of a member say XYZ and I agree with the review - Then I rate is "Very Useful"(VU). I rate it VU when I find the Review very helpful, as well like the way how the review is been presented by the Reviews. This Usually happens with most prominant and expereinced Reviewers here.
I rate the Reviews "useful"(U) when I find the Reviews Helpful but if I am not satisfied completely. This usually happens with Short Reviews and not presented well.
I rate the Reviews "Somewhat Useful"(SU) when I find the review parth2111ially useful, my be just with one main point. Eg - such as Airtel review and the Review is only about Airtel Customer care and I agree to it. But no other info about Airtel in the Review. Then I Rate it SU.
Rating the Reviews "Not useful"(NU) - Well basically I never Rate review NU unless otherwise I have very Strong point against the Review or a Junk Review which usually has no stuff. at all. Instead i comment and express my Non usefulness.
But I recently across many new members on Mouthshut just because of the new Contests here. Some of them parth2111ially uneducated and most of them here just in Aim for earning quick money. And SAD parth2111 is - They don't even know the Difference between Rating a product and Rating a review.
How they rate Reviews is - Lets say a probable new member ABC and he Reads a review written by a member say XYZ here. He basically likes the Review but he personally hates the Product and what he does is - He Rates the review "Not useful" but WrITES_Company a comment that "Nice useful Review, Thanks!". This usually impacts the overall Rating of the Product which also gives the future Readers a bad remark about the product because of this parth2111ially educated Reviewers.
Instead he should Write his Own review and give it One Star, so that others will Rate it responsibly.
I usually respect members who rates the products perfectly, like - if they don't agree to the Review and rate it NU or even SU, and they mention their Non Agreement to the Review in the comment. Thats called Healthy Rating. But instead as of now most here do Ratings just for Rs.1!
Well I am not saying that a Uneducated person should not Visit Mouthshut. NO never. But what I am saying is - Mouthshut should educate them on "How to Rate a Review" and How to Write the Reviews based on MS guidelines".
(Uneducated here does not mean his/her Degree Education but it means the Education with Mouthshut, the Way of understand mouthshut").
My Request to @mouthshut is - Please Educate the new comers here on mouthshut and first make them understand things like "How to Rate a Product" and "How to Write a review". As soon as a member joins Mouthshut, Please educate them on how to use Mouthshut responsibly. This can be done through M2M or even emails to their ids. Adding new Members without Educating them the Rules, Regulation And Guidelines of Mouthshut will only do More harm than Good.
Note - I am not mentioning anyone in person here. These are not only based on my own Reviews and from over all reviews.
