My past - a ten-headed tycoon

By Manu Kant

my past has travelled ahead

in its breast it holds

no grievances

no reproaches

no murmurings

my past has no heart

no blood veins no arteries

just a ropeway

helix like

or a heart built of recombinant DNA

my past has travelled ahead

with self-satisfied dignity

it resembles a peacock

in the mating season

feathers unfurled in full glory

in a patch of forest land

my past

has splintered into many busts

it has become a ten-headed tycoon

a CEO

a bureaucrat

medical professional

engineer

banker

lawyer

a businessman

wall street agent

soldier

a PIO (Peoples of Indian Origin)

my past is a ten-headed tycoon

the State in its elemental splendour

recently my past met me

it said with a straight face

let us have tea or coffee

let us catch up

talk of old times

my past has travelled ahead

moved ahead in life

has no grievances

no reproaches

yet it heard my murmur

barely audible

I am a sparrow

said I

extinct

already run out of steam

what is there to talk about

I already had a look at your facebook profile

for me it is the end of the story

better look towards the future

lurking behind the monsoon clouds

beckoning

my past's facebook profile:
