My kids' photos. My photos. They're on MouthShut.c

By: smartgirl | Posted Jun 05, 2008 | General | 2230 Views | (Updated Jun 05, 2008 06:19 PM)

Today I read a post by a certain member that claimed that she has been distraught since last night. The member in question received an M2M from another Mouthshut member. While the exact content of the M2M was not revealed by the member to anybody, it vaguely suggests that she received compliments about her kids’ photos which she uploaded on mouthshut. And that this member asked for more photos.

The manner in which the member sent the M2M may have been a bit eerie but the intention of the M2M was to simply compliment. The member panicked (we may too) and went ahead and removed the photos. I have three kids and I too have received a lot of compliments for them and many m2m. In case you are interested, please do take a look at their profiles: https://mouthshut.com/user/Shiraz.html

I want to emphasise that the phenomenon of receiving messages on a website is not uncommon. Either we be strong enough to read them or shy away from such sites.

My personal photos are on MouthShut.com. I have photos in every form and size and moods. To me MouthShut is one of the safest websites for sharing information.

I learnt few facts about MouthShut photos which satisfied my concerns:

a. Photos uploaded on MouthShut can only be accessed by users after logging in their account. There are dozens of other sites such as flickr.com etc which have millions of photos that are available to any visitor…registered or not. MouthShut only allows registered users to view photos

b. Photos in MouthShut are not indexed by search engines. Other sites allow search engines. So the chances of your photos appearing randomly to casual visitor are small.

You are what you are. Merely uploading a photo and receiving compliments doesn’t make you a target of stalking or cybercrime.

c. If you’re polite to others online…others will be polite to you

d. If you fight with others, people may react. If you receive an impolite M2M, ignoring it is the best way.

I am a MouthShut member from almost 8 years and I take the greatest pride in the safety of the photos and the sweetness of the members here. Of the many sites that I am registered on, I can vouch that MouthShut members are the most decent and the best behaved.

I am confident because I have used MouthShut. My husband’s name is Faisal Farooqui ( ms id: Faisal) He is the founder CEO of mouthshut.com and if MouthShut was not safe for photos, he would have NEVER allowed me to upload my kids’ photos or my own.
