Another year commences that promises loads of interesting films (and also some duds like every year)! Here are some of the upcoming flicks that have excited me:
NO ONE KILLED JESSICA: Its can be daunting to heighten hype for a film on the strength of just its actresses and not actors (remember how We Are Family tanked inspite of Kareena and Kajol?). But No One Killed Jessica has managed to do so and the result-everyone’s waiting for the film with bated breath! It is also the perfect comeback vehicle for Rani Mukherjee. Vidya Balan also stars in this powerful film based on the true story of Jessica Lal murder. Songs are absolutely rocking especially the chartbuster Dilli Dilli! Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta of Aamir fame, No One Killed Jessica releases on Jan 7!
DHOBI GHAT: Anything associated with Aamir Khan is preety exciting. Dhobi Ghat, directed by Aamir’s wife Kiran Rao, has Aamir in a pivotal role along with Pratik Babbar and talented newcomers Monica Dogra and Kriti Malhotra. The first promo of the film, although long, is attention-grabbing and promises 100 minutes of superior qualitative cinematic experience! Releases on Jan 21!
7 KHOON MAAF: The basic plotline of the film (wife killing all her 7 husbands) itself is so novel and intriguing. And that Priyanka Chopra plays the seductress-cum-murderer and that its directed by Vishal Bhardwaj is enough reason to put it as the most awaited film of not only 2011 but also of the decade! The male actors’s list includes talented names like Naseeruddin Shah, Irrfan, John Abraham, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Annu Kapoor. The sexy khooni arrives on Feb 18!
AGENT VINOD: Sriram Raghavan gave us a thrilling time with Johnny Gaddaar. Now he’s back with the big budget Agent Vinod, starring Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. The film has been shot in exotic locations like Morocco and will have Saif-Kareena indulging in high octance action sequences! Given Raghavan’s track record, having skyhigh expectations from Agent Vinod won’t be wrong!
ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA: Its stellar star cast (Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Katrina Kaif, Abhay Deol, Kalki Koechlin) says it all why this flick is keenly awaited. Directed by Zoya Akhtar (whose Luck By Chance was an exceptional film), Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is a road movie shot in the terrains of Spain. If it’s a success, Hrithik can reconsolidate his position which has been affected by his 2 box office duds, Kites and Guzaarish.
ROCKSTAR: No one understands romance better than Imtiaz Ali. He proved it thrice with Socha Na Tha, Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal and will hopefully do so once again in Rockstar. It is an exciting film because of coming together of 3 big names for the first time-Imtiaz, Ranbir Kapoor and A R Rahman. Rockstar also marks the debut of Nargis Fakhri, the hot supermodel who already has a huge fan following.
