My First Tattoo Experience

It all started this New Year’s Day with my New Years resolution list.

List making was quiet fun, from no smoking to dating. Wow!!! My elder brother went on & on & on to the list. I couldn’t stop laughing. Since this was my first resolution list I was also determined or should I say I am determined to follow. Although quitting smokes looks a bit difficult (not impossible too). I wanted to keep a common base for all my resolutions so I picked up challenging myself. I was always against Tattoos since they are painful. But then I met this all tattoo guy Abhishek, I call him Abhi of course, who has 8 neat tattoos. I told myself hey why not Tattoo too, they don’t always look messy. Since I was novice here. Abhi helped me big time right from finding prints to after care. First I thought of having an Angel print but then I searched a lot and realized most of the females have either Angels or dolphins or butterflies. I couldn’t relate myself to these prints. Of course thinking of having Angels first was just a random thought like every female would have. I kept thinking about it all the time and voila!!! I came up with the Rising Phoenix. Yes Phoenix, the spiritual bird who is known for most natural healers, symbolizing eternal life & rising from ashes. I thought yes this is ME. I could relate myself to it without a doubt. Alright once the idea was born, then began the long 3 week search for the perfect print. I was very particular when it cane to the print. I wanted bird soaring high, plus the colour and all. I wanted it on my right arm. Since I am into occult science I paid lot of attention to the print. I wanted the print to speak volumes about me and not be another print to flaunt. Abhi went on to search along with my other MSians who too offered me help. Anyways we had fixed an appointment for 14th Feb, however Abhi suggested a week earlier since 14th Feb is something I wanted to celebrate. So 9th feb was the D-day.

As I reached the venue trust me I had lot of apprehension about the pain, after care and falling sick part. I saw this guy who was getting his tattoo done. He had no expression on his face. I thought to myself God this man does have the bearing capacity. But then he made those faces which made me think twice. Anyways he was through. And it was my turn. Trust me the moment I sat on that chair which I called hot seat I was nervous. Vicky was the one who was making my tattoo, he is Abhi’s college friend plus he has been doing this since 9years. I have seen his work and I loved it. My friends asked me to go to Al’s since this is going to be my first tattoo and told me not to take any chances. But I was confident on Abhi’s choice. So I went ahead with Vicky. Plus the comfort factor was also important here. For me what was important was the person whom I can trust and be myself while the tattoo is done. Sharp at 3pm the print was sketched and my anxiety knew no bounds. Vicky told me not to move and made me feel comfortable. He cleared all my doubts and encouraged me to go ahead.

On the other side Abhi was playing all my favourite music videos to keep me distracted. The moment the machine started, I panicked and I almost left my chair saying No I don’t want tattoo, I was holding Abhi’s arm like a kid trying to escape doctors injection. I was petrified. But then Abhi assured me that nothing would happen, this procedure is not that painful. I also mustered my courage and promised myself not to shed any tears. I was also made aware of the fact that if I move the print may go haywire and this would be permanent. So for the first 20 mins I was still like a statue. Needle started working on my skin and I didn’t feel any pain. I couldn’t believe it. It wasn’t painful at all. Infact I was enjoying it. So the entire print was done within 20mins, now Vicky had to re-do the entire print for the second time. In total 3 times the needle went on the entire print. Then came the shading part. There it was, painful. I was sipping orange juice, smoking & watching my favourite music videos. Trust me I loved the entire experience of getting a tattoo done. Suddenly all the doubts started fading away. Abhi was busy clicking snaps and being on my side. Vicky was awesome. You guys will notice that the print looked really good even without colour in it. But then colour part, where the needle is dipped in colour and run on your smooth skin. This colour enhanced Phoenix mix of red, orange & yellow. This really looks Phoenix covered in fire element.

Now I am a proud owner of Phoenix on my right arm.It also says “Risen from the Ashes”. Perfect.

Guys by the end of it I was extremely happy. As they say “All’s well, that end’s well”.

Of course now my tattoo is almost healed and I am flaunting it big time. Everywhere I go the tattoo is noticed.

Cheers!!!
