Love & Valentine's Day ...Part1

By: jnan | Posted Feb 14, 2010 | General | 503 Views

These days we have seen lot of enthusiasm, particularly among young folk right from school to celebrate the Valentine's Day with lot of zest and fervour. No harm at all to express love, the deepest sentiment in human life ! But, when we propagate love for love's sake through materialistic approach as happens mostly in Valentine's Day celebration, we rather confine ourself in the outer realm of love without realising its essence.I shared some thoughts with a young educated woman from Malaysia earlier against her query like most women of her age will have. For this site, I like to share it, which runs thus.... On this issue, many have commented and some have raised valid points, both with pros and cons, and that provoke toughts to ponder to get at the realities in Life. An interesting query from a young woman of Indian origin in Malaysia propelled to think when she raised the query.."What's Love has got to do when my mom looks for a suitable match for me on the basis of money only?". If money could buy happiness, no rich person under the sun would have ever been unhappy. But, the reality is otherwise; most of rich people live a miserable life often, being confined within their riches. So, I fully agree with her view..." Love is beyond food, water, shelter etc." that we all need for bare physical existence and up to a comfort level, depending on our individual need. Unfortunately, most of us, in this age of high materialistic attitude and approach to life have lost the eternal truth for human beings, discovered and experienced through right understanding, intuitions, meditations by our sages, philosophers and intellectuals. They did reach to the gist of life, going beyond mere physical existence. This is revealed in our great scriptures like Gita, Veda and Vedanta. People merely ignore them by thinking these are meant for only those, who adopted life of renunciation like saints, sadhus etc. or even in old age. But, the truth is, these scriptures are meant for the humanity at large, irrespective of creed, culture, region, religion, language etc. and even age and sex, since revelation and experiencing the truth does depend solely on our individual development within, not from outside. These barriers we created with time for our personal gains, control and above all ego . The wisdom of these invaluable scriptures helps us understand the ways of life that we can all lead to a healthy living..... physically, mentally, morally and spiritually for a holistic growth as an individual and also of higher level of intellectual development.
