I have been unwell and had decided to be off MS until I stop sniffing, sneezing & fretting. But this I had to share…
Some time back we were watching this movie called Chandi Chowk to China. A horrendous creation that works very hard at making you lose your faith in the talents that Bollywood has. But we shall not get into that. What fascinated us – rather my daughter – was the character of Ranvir Shorey. Every now and then an angel and a devil would pop up on his shoulder and tell him what to do and what not to do or whatever.
This completely caught my daughter’s fancy. So me being in the ultimate philosophical mood these days went on to tell her that there is the good and the bad in each of us. If we allow the good to grow then we become angels and if we encourage the bad – then of course we become terrible devils. Hmmm…I set the little mind ticking and left it at that.
A few days later, however, I had a brainwave!
Now this might help all parents who are worried about their children not eating their lunch at school. My little princess – pampered with hot meals at home finds her dabbaunpalatable no matter what I send. So everyday the box used to come back in as-is-where-is condition.
For lunch that day I had packed rotiand sabji. I told my little one that the sabji had been made with Love Potion 399. Now what is that – asked my daughter totally amazed? I told her it’s a magical powder and all the people who love her had blown into it. When I put this powder and prepare food – it’s not only the tastiest meal – but it will also help the angel inside her to get stronger and stronger.
Her eyes grew wider and wider as I told her. And as she assimilated the information she came up with a zillion questions as always. We named a whole list of people who love her and care for her. The love of all these people went into that powder, which in turn has gone into her food. If she wastes it all these people will be sad. And moreover, the angel within her may not get stronger.
And guys! I hit jackpot! She polished her lunch off that day and every day since then Love Potion 399gets added to her meal. Now she tries her best to eat her meals. Each day she asks me if the angel within her is getting stronger. I assure her that it is absolutely so. I’m a happier mother and she is a happy angel too.
