LOGIC BEHIND "BEST BEFORE..." ??

By: dinuraj Verified Member MouthShut Verified Member | Posted Feb 27, 2016 | General | 159 Views

You all might have noticed one thing that when ever we look for the expiry date for a food related item, we end up in seeing a statement "best before.". I wonder why it is so. What that really mean? Is it it to be taken as it is best for eating before certain time interval and after that it becomes "better before" and then followed by "some what better before".

So why there is no permanent expiry date as we can clearly see in pharmaceutical and related products. Is this our FSSAI's rule that all the companies are following?

So this can be interpreted that there will be no expiry date for foods and beverages and an item purchased after the so called "best before period " cannot be considered as illegal or unethical.
