~~Ideal Parents or Ideal Citizen~~

By: Kweldebs | Posted Apr 29, 2010 | Think bout it | 994 Views

They don’t allow her to partake in any household work not even to enter the kitchen. She is still studying & too young to do any work. Moreover why would she be allowed to work when her parents can afford maid for all domestic work. After-all she is doing her engineering. Couple-a months and she would start earning more than her current age. Then get her married to an well settled guy, preferably an NRI and she would continue living like a princess.

Now what would you call such parents, who love their only daughter and are proud of her education. Some might say – they are responsible, some would say they are ideal. Some would quote she is lucky to have such a caring parents.

But could a responsible, caring & ideal parents be responsible citizen too? Sounds reasonably puzzling. How could parents be compared to responsible citizen? Rather how are these two traits connected!

Like they say ‘learning starts at home’ and ‘parents are the first teachers for a kid’. We start learning the fundamentals in life as tots. Like – Dos, Don’ts, why, how etc. Also, kids do pick up practices from parents & elders. Isn’t it one needs to be extra careful to embed the good qualities which would lead the child to become responsible in life. I believe there is a trick here. Like the way we add spices while cooking to make food tasty, it is responsibility of parents to edify the kid to become responsible. Responsibility – not just for life but also for the responsibilities towards society.

Let me come back to our ideal parents. They are giving the best to the daughter so that she gets established well in life & becomes successful. They have a maid for the household support (as I had mentioned before). And the maid has small kids, may be of age range 7-9. The maid finds it easy to put her small kids to do the work like cleaning staircases, putting clothes to dry etc. Can we say that she is a responsible Mother? Probably yes… perhaps no. But what preferably the ideal parents could do here? As a responsible citizen – I expect them not to let the small kids to work. But they aren’t unhappy too - to see the small kids working. May be cos the mother is paid, may be cos they are someone else’s kids – so why would they be bothered?

And exactly here I ask them the question – are you responsible as a citizen? Ain’t you failing becoming an ideal parents someway?
