IEEE and others

I became an IEEE member but was not very happy with the contents on their website. Most of the articles on the website were not related directly to core electrical problems or electrical equipment we use as a part of our jobs like Transformers, Switchgears etc. They were on other topics which are related but indirectly. These days we are all online and the yesteryears of reading IEEE journal or a magazine is gone. So, request them to produce more of basics rather than very advanced articles that become unrelated. Also, the papers they publish are important but, who in day-to-day electrical activities, unless required specially, spends efforts to do these articles. Just a feedback. It could also be that I didn’t know how to use it properly.

Anyhow, there are some groups which produce excellent training courses for electrical related topics which are very useful for every electrical engineer. But they are costly. I suggest doing more variety of topics in electrical engineering and make it budget friendly. Right now, if its budget friendly it is not that great and if its great it’s not economical. Pinches a little.

All the same, one way as experienced people know is to develop a good rapport with vendors. If they collaborate and give information, then many of the problems get solved jobwise/project wise.

ADIPEC 2023 held at Abu Dhabi was a nice occasion to discuss with various vendors regarding problems that we encounter. Around 180,000 people visited ADIPEC 2023, and it was enriching to get valuable catalogues and brochures after discussions with opportunity to see new products applicable to our electrical related activities. We should have more such encounters locally, periodically so that more associating topics can be discussed and overcome.

I will extend my argument to other disciplines like process engineering etc. For example, an experienced process engineer from non-oil and gas background should be able to get hands on experience on tools that a process disciple uses or get trained in them so that they can join the oil and gas field. Right now, affordable, and good groups to impart them are very less.

Thanks for your time.
