Lalit Modi has been suspended by BCCI. IPL is now over for the erstwhile chaiman. Even to a common onlooker, it si obvious that everything was not above board as far as transactions of IPL are concerned. Modi himself said in an interview post IPL finals that if anything was not done properly, he will take full responsibility for it. So far so good! (If things get proven, Modi will pay for his misdoings.....but I doubt if anything will be proven at all)
The BCCI which had long wanted to have a go at Modi finally drew their blood. There is no doubt that India is a cricket crazy nation. But that does not take away the credit from LALIT MODI of putting into existence one of the biggest moneyspinning ideas into existence from nothing. Not even the staunchest of his critics would dare to say that this 46 year old lacked marketing skills. It takes a lot of firm decisions and defintely a vision to create a huge setup such as IPL. Atleast Modi did not just fudge the accounts to create a mammoth organisation like Ramalingam Raju, we must give due credit to him for that.
Major of his follies was that he forgot that he was only a chairman of a body under the BCCI, which is so Cordial an organisation. He ran it like his own private limited company. And the GC members were seething that they were not consulted (I would read - given their cuts, else why did they keep quiet for 3 years) Now that a mammoth empire has been pit in place, even without Modi, people of lesser acumen can run it. I am not hinting that Chirayu Amin is any less able than Modi, it is only a general statement.
Our hockey federation is in a poor shape. We need someone like Modi to do a feat like IPL to bring hockey into prominence. Maybe, only Modi will have the vision and acumen to do it. The hockey federation should avail the services of Modi to revive the game. The sharp marketing genius that he is, Modi will devise means and ways to set a jaggernaut rolling. Everything may not be above board, knowing Modi, but he will generate something out of nothing.
As an aam insaan I feel hockey of this country needs Modi....what do you say ?
