Hit and Run

Rohit Kukreti is a bad man and here's the reason why.

A few days back Mr. Kukreti borrows a friends car and goes racing down Palm Beach road to attend to some work. On the way he is doing 80+ on a 60kmph road and manages to not notice a traffic signal that has turned orange when he is around 250mts from the signal. What's more he also misses the cars that have stopped at the signal which is now red when Mr. Kukretis car goes wham into a Maruti 800 waiting at the signal. The Maruti 800 was being driven by a student of the current batch of MBA at NMIMS who is ferrying his 60+ parents to a doctors appointment. His mom is in the back seat and his dad is in the front passenger seat. The cars, both Rohits and Mr. Guptas', are badly damaged in this collission but miraculously no one is "obviously" hurt. Two traffic cops and two armed policemen were witness to this accident. They rush to the rescue of the people trapped in the Maruti 800. Apparently the collision was strong enough to bend the cars frame all out of shape and all the doors were mounted on each other rendering them useless. Thankfully after a bit of effort from the policemen the front passenger side door opens. Everyone is immediately evacuated and then starts Kukretis absurdity. For all purposes he looks like a decently educated fellow. He works at Deccan360 as an Operations Controller which I figure amounts to something higher up than a low life worm. What does he do? He whips out his phone and starts calling up every TDH he knows and or has ever had the good fortune of having been introduced to. The policemen are subjected to the "here talk to this gentleman" and "you don't know who I am" routines.

I was at the gym wrapping up a weights training session with my personal trainer when I get the call from my distraught ma-in-law. Apparently she gives me more credit than I am worthy of in handling crunch situations.Thankfully we had not yet left for Pune as planned earlier. So we rush to the spot. I make a quick sizing up of the accident spot and make some quick decisions. Ma-in-law and father-in-law are bundled into a taxi, which was standing nearby while the driver looked at the tamasha, wife goes with them to attend to immediate whiplash related injuries. I then walk up to Kukreti and he finally says it "I am not going to pay even one penny for this, why you have insurance no get it from them". I feel like bitch slapping him but then I am a very calm person and my blood pressure actually goes down in such crunch situations ergo I calmly ask him "do you feel you did anything wrong at all?". By this time I have had a word with the policemen and traffic cops and understood exactly how the accident happened. Kukreti quipps "he was stopping on an orange signal what am I supposed to do?". The cops refute it and say it had turned red way before Mr. Kukreti got his ass out of his bum and his phone out of his ear drum enough to try and take evasive action. He is anything but sorry for what he has done and now wants to just drive away. His car is definitely more damaged than Mr. Guptas' car. I get irritated not by the fact that Kukreti is not willing to pay for the damage, no, I am totally riled by the way he refused to take any responsibility and actually lies to someone on his phone about how he was trying to save a woman crossing the road and ended up crashing into another car.
