HUMARA BAJAJ RIP

Rest in peace Bajaj scooters, maybe some have junked it by now without much resale value. Travelling down the memory lane I was a proud owner of Bajaj Super in Nov 1991 @ Nagpur. It was vehicle which was in demand or one had to premium if one wanted immediate delivery. I hated to pay a bribe or premium to get a vehicle immediately, so I was put on queue for 2 months.

I preferred the longer route paid the full in DD to the dealer and waited for the day to take delivery of this brand new bajaj super in grey. One fine day I was informed that my vehicle has arrived and I had to pay the reg. fee and insurance to collect the same. I collected the vehicle and went to ganesha temple opp. the railway station to perform the vahana pooja.

For a city like nagpur which hardly had a radius of 10 kms those days including the suburb which was hardly 9 kms to Check naka point was comfortable. My travel was hardly 20kms per day from Chaoni, Sadar to Yeswanth stadium and return. The vehicle is really compromise for people above 5.5, and those days only Hero honda was available and that too on much longer waiting period. Bajaj had launched their kawasaki bajaj which was a total flop due to starting problem.

I was used to riding Jawa before going for Bajaj Super. My friend took the vehicle and had a toss and returned the vehicle to me. From than on the manoevreability of the vehicle was a suspect. He never bothered to get the vehicle repaired. I had to ride it carefully for 3 years and than we moved to Mumbai. In mumbai I used it for another 4 years to travel towards station. Ultimately I had to say goodbye to Bajaj Super. I bought my Maruti DX in 1999.

Basically Bajaj Super was a product of outdated technology suited for middle class. The worst part of it was one was prepared to a premium for an outdated technology. It made many a brokers and dealers millionaires. Ultimately in 2002 I managed to dispose of the scooter for 6500 instead of becoming a junk with no residual value.

I was fortunate to get rid of the bike which had become outdated after 11 years. At that time I remember having e mailed somebody in Bajaj co. that unless they focus on Motorbike the company will face closure.

Many an individual may shed tears for this great family vehicle, but only in sentimental terms. No need for this dramatics, because this product does not deserve that sort of love. Bajaj Chetak or Vespa is better product in terms balance and stability on the road. I don t have any regret for junking such a product whose time has come. It only reminds me of corruption rather than invention, no croc tears for me Lol RIP Bajaj Super.
