Free Water and Electricity! Is it though?

By: soolimooli | Posted Feb 27, 2015 | General | 216 Views | (Updated Feb 27, 2015 02:02 PM)

We often learn that nothing is ever free, and for what it is worth, it is mostly true. There is always the cost of producing a good or service, and the price that may be paid directly or indirectly.

For what it is worth, it seems that those consuming less than 20,000 litres will actually have free water. However, consider the numbers. The house I grew up in was rather small and i'd say when we had no washing machine or such, we were going to be marginal on the 20,000 litres over a month. Not many have noticed, but a component called "sewer charges" has been added to the bill in 2012. In older bills, when water was unmetered, there was no component charged for sewerage, which is by the way charged for all western countries. Then again, in all western countries, water is supplied without interruption for the most part. The net result is that while most of the Delhi'ites will not properly have water round the clock, although, you will be paying more for the same services which you have been using since donkey years, thanks to Congress who was in power in Delhi in 2012, and now Kejriwal.

Again, if you used less than 400KW, then your electricity bill will be less, and that is ok. However, what is going to be the price of Electricity per unit going forward? Congress government was caught colluding with the power companies. Even though there were more than sufficient surplus in several thousand crores, after factoring all costs involved in distribution, the companies and Congress in their infinite wisdom and greed, they wanted to increase the price per unit, and quite substantially. The figure was supposedly in excess of 50% of the existing rate, and remember, that this is when the companies were making profits in thousands of crores.

AAP also promised free water and cheap electricity to all in Delhi last time around, before they abandoned their voters, nevermind the responsibility as a representative. However, wherever is the money required for purchase of electricity, water and operating costs involved, coming from? Kejriwal in his infinite stupidity, wants to point a finger at the central government, and that is where he and his ilk give away the game. There is little doubt that the gameplan is to blame center for inability of state government to meet its commitments. Yes, center is responsible for allocating funds, but states also have to have budgets, as money it doesn't grow on trees. That money which the Central government has and spends, it comes usually from various taxes, and other income. So you need to understand, that until something else changes in the chain, the approach of Kejriwal is just not practical, but it is rather a case of plain and simple political one upmanship, and little else.

Then there is matter of his traitorous nature, to both the people who elected him as a representative, and the nation. Let us look at the traitorous nature apart from whatever is outlined above already. Always remember, and do not forgive that as soon as greener pastures were visible, he abandoned Delhi. He also made claims about corruption being checked. Especially politicians like Sheila Dixit against who he had'documents' which he claimed on every visible platform, whether it was a speech in public, or an interview. Now though, he suggests that he has lost that document which contained more than 300 pages about corrupt nature of the then Congress government in charge in Delhi. How. convenient. Worse still was when he joined the very same people, who he promised to put behind bars. His funding comes from out of India for political activities, and you could remain assured that they don't have India's best interests in mind. When Kejriwal says give this part of India to Pakistan, or give that part away to China, and so on and so on, you need to remember that he is speaking the language of his masters. Masters who are out of India, but funding him, and puling strings.

There is a quote by Alexis de Tocqueville, "In a democracy, the people get the government they deserve." Congratulations, we the fools in Delhi, have managed to make the situation go bad to worse. Sheila Dixit was horrible, and it is no secret that Congress government led by her ran the State Government of Delhi almost bankrupt in 2010. Yes, those good ol' times of CWG and money spent like it meant nothing. Now again, we have a government which is all talk, but little substance. Congratulations, for your foreign funded CM.
