WILL PHANTOM BREAK THE UNSUCCESSFUL RUN OF SAIF AT THE BOX OFFICE?

Bajrangi Bhaijaan director Kabir Khan is back with another hard-hitting film – Phantom – that’s all set to release tomorrow. It stars Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif and is a fictional tale of an Indian secret agent avenging the 26/11 terror attacks. The trailer of the film is powerful. The movie itself looks like an action thriller, but within the realistic format, maybe on the lines of the much loved Baby. There’s no scope for songs but three tracks are out, two of which will be relegated to the background it seems. The third song – Afghan Jalebi – looks like a promotional track and it has nicely caught on although initially many dubbed it as a silly track. Saif looks awesome in the film and has pinned all his hopes on this flick. After all, his last 3 films – Bullett Raja, Humshakals and Happy Ending – have fared very badly at the box office. Phantom looks great and might bring him back in the top league to an extent.

However, the film has quite a few challenges. It’s not a typical entertainer and hence the excitement is limited. A section of trade believes that the film might not be able to recover its investment, which is quite controlled one despite the film being shot at lot of locations of the world. Yet, the film might not be able to recover its cost is what the makers feel. However, the film has the India-Pakistan drama that can connect with the people out here. Also, Kabir is known to neatly merge entertainment with realism and global politics. Hence, Phantom might spring a surprise and who turns, might turn out to be a huge success. Let’s hope that happens, especially for Saif. He’s a fantastic actor and deserves loads of hit films!
