IT’S THE HAPPY NEW YEAR WEEKEND!

Diwali is here and so is the release of one of the most talked about films of the year – Happy New Year! If all goes well, it can turn out to be one of the biggest hits of 2014! After all, it has lot of factors in its favour. It marks the coming together of Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan for the third time after the immensely successful Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om. Moreover, Deepika Padukone is paired opposite the superstar and it’s a jodi that has been loved by viewers. The other actors in the film are Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah. Jackie Shroff plays the antagonist. The film is about a group of so-called losers and bad dancers who participate in World Dance Championship not to emerge as winners but to commit a heist! The film looks grand, vibrant and colourful. It uses heavy terms like ‘World Dance Championship’ and ‘biggest robbery of the world’ and the scale of the film is such that it all looks convincing. Deepika looks sizzling, especially in the ‘Lovely’ track. The other songs of the film too have gradually picked up, with ‘Indiawaale’ being the frontrunner. The humour element comes across well and like a typical Farah Khan film, the film encompasses everything in right doses – dance, music, romance, sizzle, action, comedy and tragedy. The team of the film embarked on a ‘Slam Tour’ which was held in different cities in UK, USA and Canada. The response to these shows was mindboggling.

What goes against the film is that a section of moviegoers feel that it would be a senseless film on the lines of Farah Khan’s last outing Tees Maar Khan. Also, SRK has achieved an enviable 8-pack(or is it 10-pack) abs for the film and many feel its photoshopped. A lot is spent on the film and while it is bound to get a huge opening, whether it’ll sustain from Monday and whether it’ll turn out to be a blockbuster depends on how good is the film. If response is negative, it can prove detrimental, considering the costs of the film. Earlier this month, Bang Bang turned out to be an underperformer, keeping in the mind the sky-high budget of the film.

However, the first day surely will be huge for the film, without doubt. After all, Happy New Year is releasing on New Year’s day which is a holiday. In fact, a section of trade is confident that a 40 crore opening day is on cards! Here’s hoping Happy New Year turns out to be one of the best films of the year and meets all the expectations!
