WILL BHOOTHNATH RETURNS MANAGE TO ATTRACT AUDIENCES?

Bhoothnath(2008) was a sweet, little film that did touch the hearts of many though its emotional climax was not well accepted by all. However, the performances of Amitabh Bachchan, Juhi Chawla and Aman Siddiqui were unanimously loved. The makers, B R Films, are now back with the sequel to the film, Bhoothnath Returns. And this time, they have set the ghost in the midst of the pre-elections circus, with the ghost even contesting as an election candidate!

Bhoothnath Returns is directed by Nitish Tiwari, who co-directed Chillar Party with Queen director Vikas Bahl. Hence, it’s not surprising that the setting and even characters look very real and not at all superficial. And being Bhoothnath, it’s a clean film and hence a complete family entertainer. Though it’s not very kiddish, the humour should appeal to kids and in fact, to people of all age groups. Music is alright, with Party To Banti Hai and Party All Night(featuring Yo Yo Honey Singh) have especially caught attention. The film has special appearances by Ranbir Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan as well.

Excitement for the film however is moderate and this is going to reflect in the collections when the film releases tomorrow. Also, the film has competition from Rio 2, which might take away Bhoothnath Returns its target audiences – the kids and the family crowd, but that would only be in metros. As per reports, Bhoothnath Returns’ cost is reasonable. Hence, if the film’s response is positive, it can sustain and thereby recover its investment.
