ROCKSTAR – IMTIAZ’ THIRD HIT IN A ROW?

Most of the times, Bollywood audiences don’t give due to film directors. Audiences will flock to see a film if it stars their favourite superstar but most of the times won’t do the same for a particularly successful director. Under such circumstances, it’s interesting to see that one of the reasons why Rockstar is keenly awaited is because of its director, Imtiaz Ali!

Imtiaz surprised one and all with Jab We Met, one of the finest films in recent times. Even his next Love Aaj Kal was appreciated for its contemporary take on relationships. No wonder that Imtiaz Ali is a ‘superstar director’ today and has a huge fan following. However, there are many other reasons why Rockstar is on top of ‘must-see’ list of moviegoers. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor and from the promos, it seems he has given a yet another bravura performance! This is also the first time that Imtiaz Ali has collaborated with music maestro A R Rahman and the result is phenomenal! There are as many as 14 songs in the film, each one having it own distinct identity and freshness! Saadda Haq is already on top of charts.

Debutant Nargis Fakhri has been casted opposite Ranbir and their chemistry seems too good. Aditi Rao Hyadri, who was last seen in an impressive role in Yeh Saali Zindagi, has a supporting role in the film alongwith Piyush Mishra and Shernaz Patel. Most importantly, late Shammi Kapoor will be seen in a cameo in the film. The jugalbandi scene between him and Ranbir will surely be a treat to witness!

Although a lot has been spent on the film, it seems that recovery will be easy as the hype and buzz for the film is tremendous. However, like any other film, Rockstar needs good word of mouth to sustain. Although one can argue that being an Imtiaz Ali film, the movie will surely not disappoint, I personally feel that when it comes to films, always be ready to expect the unexpected! And in any case, it’s the films studded with big names that mostly disappoint the most!

HOLLYWOOD FILM TO RELEASE IN INDIA 40 DAYS BEFORE USA RELEASE!

When it comes to Hollywood films, India most of the times gets a raw deal. Films in India release as many as 6-7 weeks after its release in USA. By the time the flick hits Indian screens, most of the people have already seen the film through internet downloads. Hence, it’s an extremely pleasant surprise to know that tables will be turned with The Adventures of Tintin! It would see a release in our country tomorrow, almost 40 days before it releases in USA (21 December)!

Tintin has always been one of my most favourite comic series. The film is directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings, King Kong). Moreover, this is a ‘performance capture’ film (real-action scenes changed to animation) and the quality seems outstanding!

The opening of the film is expected to be terrific, inspite of competition in the form of Rockstar. Although the younger generation isn’t acquainted much with Tintin, it is expected to attract a lot of kids too!
