WILL MAUSAM SHINE AT THE BOX OFFICE?

The technology, increased number of films and the zeal to work 24x7 has made it possible for filmmakers to wrap up their film shoot in even less than 45-50 days time. However, this may not be possible for all films, especially those which are shot in diverse locations and the protagonists ageing as the narrative progresses. Such factors require time, sometimes lots of it. Mausam is one such film which took more than a year to be made. Many called it a waste of time, with few even doubting Pankaj Kapur’s directorial abilities. However, one look at the film in the promos and one realizes that the film has shaped up beautifully!

Mausam stars Pankaj Kapur’s own son Shahid Kapoor and opposite him is Sonam Kapoor. The film throws light on the 12 years of their lives and hence the change in locations and look. Shahid looks terrific in the IAF uniform and it was a good to see a man-in-uniform after a hiatus! Sonam too seems stunning. Watch out for her in the song Mallo Malli. Talking about songs, Mausam’s music has been loved by one and all. Rabba obviously takes the cake and its picturisation is marvelous, as evident from the promos. The fighter planes look exciting and it will be fun to witness it on the big screen!

Since it’s made on mammoth scale, a lot has been spent on Mausam. And seeing the not-so-huge hype for the film, there’s a fear that Mausam might not be able to recover costs. Even the opening isn’t expected to be 100%. However, the film if made well, has chances to grow. It remains to be seen how Pankaj Kapur has executed the love story. Also, the delay in Mausam by a week (it was supposed to release last week) has proved to be a blessing in disguise as there’s no Hindi film running in the country except Bodyguard and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, both films which have been seen by almost all. So on second thoughts, a strong opening can be expected!

The one-year wait ends tomorrow!

AKSHAY’S INDO-CANDADIAN PRODUCTION RELEASES TOMORROW!

Akshay Kumar has been co-producing many of his own films since a couple of years under the banner Hari Om Entertainment. Speedy Singhs is the first film of his banner that doesn’t star him in a leading role and where he’ll be seen only in a song and in a cameo. Released under the title Breakaway for international audiences, the film stars Toronto-based Vinay Virmani who’s also the writer of the film. Camila Belle, popular comedian Russell Peters, Anupam Kher, Gurpreet Guggi and Rob Lowe complete the rest of the cast.

Though Akshay’s one of the producers, the rest of the producers as well as the director (Robert Lieberman) are Canadians. This makes Speedy Singhs an Indo-Canadian production and cashing on this aspect, it’ll be getting international release as well. It was also screened at the Toronto Film Fest. 2 songs of the film have become popular – Shera Di Kaum Punjabi (RDB) and Veer Ji Viyohn.

The film has some hype due to Akshay’s presence but it’s sure to face stiff time due to Mausam. Also, the reviews of the film from Toronto Film Fest aren’t encouraging. Though Vinay Virmani has been appreciated, Speedy Singhs have been dubbed as poor man’s Bend It Like Beckham!

WILL IT WORK FOR INDIAN AUDIENCES? LETS SEE!
