BIGGIE ITEM SONGS FAIL TO IMPRESS!
With the popularity of Dhanno (Housefull), Munni Badnaam (Dabangg) and Sheila Ki Jawani (Tees Maar Khan), item songs have become the ‘in’ thing. Filmmakers have realized that curiosity for their film can be significantly intensified through item numbers, as it was the case in Dabangg and TMK. Hence, the producers of the forthcoming films Thank You (TY) and Dum Maaro Dum (DMD) also planned to embark on a similar promotion for their films. Sadly, their move boomeranged.
TY item song ‘Razia’ is picturised on Mallika Sherawat. There wasn’t much excitement for it anyways. Yet, it was expected that it would make waves once its visuals are unveiled. Sadly, that didn’t happen. As things stand today, many are not aware of this item song. However, DMD’s item song (remix of the original Dum Maro Dum song from Dev Anand-Zeenat Aman 1971 starrer Hare Rama Hare Krishna) seemed like a hot property ever since it was announced. The makers first released the picture of the item girl in the song Deepika Padukone which added to the hotness to the already sweltering weather! Everyone expected the song to be as sizzling as the picture. The song was to be unveiled last Saturday during the Ind v/s SA World Cup Match at Nagpur (which explains why DMD’s cast – Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu – were present at the match). Unfortunately, the song got thumbs down, for its lyrics, composition and picturisation. The lyric seemed atrocious and was totally a humiliation of the original song. The only saving grace was Deepika.
This could be fatal for DMD as the film was expected to be promoted on the basis of this item song. In fact, the poster of the film has only Deepika on it and not the principle cast! Now, with the item number not getting favorable response, it remains to be seen how DMD manages to heighten curiosity.
