By: rawraj | Posted Apr 24, 2009 | General | 2816 Views | (Updated Apr 24, 2009 02:19 PM)

Hello friends I recently received an email regarding Childline I am pasting it below

"If you have a function/party at your home and if there is excess food available at the end, don't hesitate to call 1098 (only in India) - child helpline. They will come and collect the food.

Please circulate this message which can help feed many children.

PLEASE, DON'T BREAK THIS CHAIN....

'Helping hands are better than Praying Lips'.

Pass this to all whom you know and whom you don't know as well."

It is followed with a picture of hungry child and it implores you to forward it to all.

I had by doubts so I contacted Childline for a confirmation. As expected the email was a fake, Childline is a emergency helpline for children in trouble. They do not pick up leftover food from parties. Spreading this false information will only jam(not u javeed :-P) this emergency helpline reserved for emergency situation described in the email(that I received from Childline) that I am pasting below. They have also put a warning on their homepage about this email. Also I am pasting the entire email as an awareness towards this wonderful organization that has been doing outstanding work in the field of child welfare since 12 years. I sincerely request you to visit their site and do the needful or at least spread the word(the true word) about this helpline and this organization'

EMAIL FROM CHILDLINE BELOW

Dear Mr. Jairaj Sanand,

The information spread is completely INCORRECT.

CHILDLINE India DOES NOT COLLECT left over food after a party.

CHILDLINE 1098 is India’s only and most widespread Children’s phone emergency outreach service for distresseda nd deprived children in need of care and protection. We not only respond to emergency needs of children but also provide a platform of networking amongstorganisations and provide linkages to support systems that facilitate the rehabilitation of children in need. This is a project supported by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development and linking state Governments, NGOs,bilateral /multilateral agencies and corporate sector. In 12 years, CHILDLINE has worked with over 3 million children in need of care and protection.

The message was probably meant out of good will, but it would actually result in doing the opposite, blocking and jamming the line. 1098, the toll free emergency number should be kept free for emergency calls from children and others in the time of distress or for concerned citizens to report a child who is in need of our help.

It is always advisable to check the authenticity of any information before circulating it and we are glad you took the time to do so. To understand our approach, objectives and activities do click here. In our attempt to clarify our stand, we have also issued a warning of the above at the bottom of our homepage. We sincerely request you to spread the word about the same so that we are able to work smoothly for the broader cause we have undertaken.

We appreciate your co-operation.

I would like to take this opportunity to always verify any forwarded email no matter how good it may sound. Oh and let me make it clear, no one can track your forwarded emails so you can conveniently ignore any emails that say, that some organization will donate a said amount every time this email is forwarded.

http://www.hoax-slayer.com/ This is a good website you can check with another idea would be too paste the heading of the email followed by the word hoax in google.

This kind of emails are a huge waste of resources. email servers getting jams(and phone lines in this case) so please do a little search and take the time to politely inform the person who has sent you this email with the same message.

Thanks
