Last week I just overheard Romesh complaining to a leading retail store incharge that his points accumulated on Loyalty cards had been redeemed. It was a shocker not only to my fellow comrade but also to the management of the reputed retail format. It was just a open and shut case of an extremely intelligent employee using the average intelligence of Romesh.


Romesh wanted to redeem his points at the retail store, many a times he found that there were no concerned personnel to check on the system. Further he had accumulated 95 points during the course of one and half years of purchasing which amounts Rs 66.50 redemption value @ 70 np for every Rs 100 purchase. He called up the call centre and confirmed his total point accumulated. But they gave him a surprise news that he had already redeemed his 65 points which amounts to Rs 45.5. Romesh was shocked how can anyone redeem my points without swiping.


To take the process of investigation further I asked him do you know how the redemption procedure is activated. He said he is not aware, but assumed that with the loyalty card one has to swipe and redeem. I asked him how did he normally incorporate the points. He said he had memorized the 16 digit no and every time he used to utter the number to the counter staff for collecting loyalty points. Now it throws a challenge to an employee or even a co customer to memorise the 16 digit no. So Romesh was left high and dry, how can he now resolve his problem and get justice from some mischief monger. His loyalty card no is no more a secret, if the employee is still in service at the retail store. All his future purchases can be redeemed by the employee who has memorised his number. How is the management going to keep track of such blatant misuse in future. Does it mean that employees can swallow the legitimate scheme to the consumers ?


This is a real life incident? How should Romesh redress his grievance? Any solutions my dear friends?


UPDATE : 11/5/09 - Finally manager calls up and says there was a technical glitch. Mr Romesh informs me that he has got his solution. Thanks to the case being respresented in Mouthshut. KUDOS
