Credit card - the fine print

By: Economist | Posted Nov 19, 2011 | General | 161 Views

Banks are dying to capture customers with decent paying ability. Sales people are pushed to the brink.. So banks will do anything to get the sale. India has very poor redressal mechanisms so it buyers beware.

I have experienced Citi, HDFC, SBI and ICICI. I am a premium customer is 2 banks out of the 4.

  1. Better get a medium level free card from your salary or main account branch

  2. Dont fall for the rewards. It mwans nothing and studdies have shown that whatever benefits that come out of it are negated by the one off events you dont think off.

  3. You want to feel premium.. Buy a good sharit but don buy card with fees. Only fools do that

  4. ICICI bank is the worst as their culture is to just meet regulatory bars. They will unscrupulously do what it takes to con you and will turn a blind eye to any cheating by the DSO

  5. ICICI has a major con game going with Kingfisher. There is a reason why other banks did not tied up with KF. You will be cheated and one you get the charges on your card there is nothing you can do unless you go to the consumer court

ALWAYS GET any OFFER in writing especially with ICICI Card. eg I have 3-4 cases on misrepresentation iwth ICICI Kingfisher.
