Corruption - Major Illness in our Society

By: jnan | Posted Jan 28, 2011 | General | 437 Views

Almost every day when we open the daily or a news channel in TV, we come across the stories of corruption which is rampant in public life. As if, it has become an integral part in our daily life in our society. The net result is alarming as people are indifferent to the extent that we have started accepting corruption in every phase of our life. To substantiate this, it can be noticed first when we try to admit toddlers (who are embodiment of innocence), we usually bribe to get them admitted to a preparatory/ KG school of our choice. Even the seed of corruption may start when a new comer is to be born for admission in hospital for right care of pregnant mother. Here after, we see and experience corruption in each strata of life like getting into a desired job mostly in public sector. For example, it is common knowledge, any one desirous to get into a state or city police, needs to grease the palm. Even for posting at a desired location, there is almost a bidding process, whereby a high price is to be paid. Obviously, the person so admitted, would certainly ensure that he/she recovers not only the cost incurred, but also makes a decent sum, even it may be so-called black money. More of corruption in recent times are taking place in high places of mighty ones in our public life; that is, amid almost all politicians of any hue. Each of the political parties, though professes their innocence and strongly try to voice the integrity of their party through spokesperson all the time by defiling the competitors, but it is well known that none of them is angel. Each of them when in power, subverted entire system by overlooking rampant corruption taking place under their nose, even by their alliance (mostly unholy due to political compulsion). What good does it do to public at large and the country as a whole? We all know that greed and power crazy outlook of politicians in all parties are demeaning the country as a whole. Hence, India comes out as one of the top countries for corruption in world wide statistics. What good our political bosses has done to the country over last 62 years since our Independence ? We have lost moral fibre of the country and the values of life like honesty, sincerity and integrity for this unholy political system practised over several decades. When people at top of our country, who are supposed to provide good governance, act only for their ulterior motive to satisfy their greed for unrestricted wealth and power, it really pains as it bleeds the country and deteriorates the public life of ethical value to a degraded level. It seems there is no honest desire by any political party in power to take corrective measures by acting harsh on all such corrupt people with them in the fear of losing political support and hold of power to control a nation as big as India. Are these people patriots as they claim or far from that ? Besides, none has slightest concern for large population in our country who are suffering from the galore of high price rise almost throughout these year on items of daily consumption to survive. It is pathetic to see how our administrative body in local/state governments are lacking the will as vegetables of daily consumption like onion , tomato have skyrocketed at retail market while it is of much lower price in whole sale market. From wholesale to retails, the price soared up 135% as stated in a daily. Why can not they clamp down on middlemen, who simply manipulate to fleece poor public? If we seriously delve into it, we will find corrupt officials or so called babus are involved. We have lived with this situation far too long. Unless the corruption is eliminated from all walks of our life, we cannot have a vibrant society with well being of one and all. Every citizen like us must vow to wipe this disease of corruption amid us by professing not to indulge in it for soft options or for self motives, if we consider ourselves true and honest citizen of this country.
