Beat the heat with Chilled Buttermilk

Its ageold practise to drink lots of buttermilk during summer months. Something about buttermilk brings to mind its beneficial aspects on health.

Buttermilk is lower in fat than regular milk, because the fat has been removed to make butter. It is also high in potassium, vitamin B12, calcium, and riboflavin as well as a good source of phosphorus. The increased acidity is primarily due to lactic acid , a byproduct naturally produced by lactic acid bacteria while fermenting lactose, the primary sugar found in milk. As lactic acid is produced by the bacteria, the pH of the milk decreases and casein, the primary protein in milk, precipitates causing the curdling or clabbering of milk.

Buttermilk is easier to digest than regular milk because it contains even more lactic acid than can be found in skim milk.Studies have shown buttermilk to be effective in reducing heat in the body. That’s why many people drink it in the summer months.Because the word butter is in its name, it’s naturally assumed to be higher in fat content than regular milk. However, buttermilk actually has less fat than regular milk; the fat has been removed to make butter.

Ayurveda has described it as good digestive and carminative drink that is appetizer and used for treating obesity. Normally buttermilk is also useful in the acidity related complications.

Buttermilk is having very good results in the obese conditions. It is described as if one is taking buttermilk for 15 to 25 days in morning meals with simple gruel preparations it will help him/her a lot to reduce weight.
