I teach CSc. at few colleges & corporates three times a week other than my regular Sessions at my office.Last Monday, as a habit, at the beginning of class, I cheerfully asked my students the typical question after weekends,how their weekend had been?Well generally Students used to the question; say they had a Great Week End.But, One Student said that his weekend had not been so good.He had met with an Accident.He was safe,but his Bike was damaged.The Student then proceeded to ask me why I always seemed to be so cheerful.Laughing Buddha.
His question jog my memory of something I’d read somewhere before: “Every morning when you get up, you have a choice about how you want to approach life that day,”I look at the Mirror and Say to myself.“I opt to be cheerful.”
“Let me give you an example,”I continued,addressing all sixty faces in the class.“In addition to teaching here,I also teach out at other colleges in Hyderabad,some are almost 40 kms from where I reside.One day a few weeks ago I drove to a college almost 8 kms from home.I exited the main busy Hi-tech road & turned onto College Road. I only had to drive another half km down the road to the Engineering College. But just then my car died on the steep road. I tried to start it again, but the engine wouldn’t turn over. Checked the Engine, battery, Fuel-No way.So I parked the car aside,grabbed my teaching aids, & marched up the road to the college.
As soon as I got there I called my mechanic & arranged for a tow to the garage after class.The Administrative office lady of the College asked me what has happened.‘This is my lucky day’I replied,smiling.
"How Can It be, when I just heard you on the phone asking for your mechanic in regards to your car breakdown and you are saying today is your lucky day?" She was puzzled. "What do you mean?"
Life is full of ups & downs.Some moments are there that bring sunshine, others battle the rain.But whatever life's moments have in store for us,we can redefine them according to our own paradigms that teach us to be optimistic in every circumstance.Because we know for sure, nothing is more dominant than our will, our hope & our positive attitude.Because we know the sun will come back;things will always get better.Yet,another Beautiful Day after a Dark Night.
Cheerfulness removes the rust from the mind,lubricates our inward machinery & enables us to do our work with fewer creaks and groans.If people were universally cheerful,probably there wouldn't be half the quarreling or a tenth part of the wickedness there is.Cheerfulness,too, promotes health and immortality.Cheerful people live longest here on earth,afterwardsin our hearts.
Be cheerful at all times.At first you don't have to believe it-just do it.Act it. Rehearse it. Pretend,but do it.After a little while you will find it is not an act,you are not pretending,you genuinely do feel cheerful.We will start doing it Sub-consciously.
Putting on a smile triggers our hormones.These hormones will make us feel better.Once we feel better we will smile more and thus produce more hormones.And we do have a Ripple Effecton the Surroundings too.All it takes is the first few days smiling when you don't feel like it & you will start cycle going that will make you feel better all the time.
“I live just 8 Kms from here."I replied."My car could have broken down anywhere along the busy road, right in middle of the traffic.It didn’t.Instead,it broke down in the perfect place:off the Busy Hi-tech road,within walking distance of here.I’m will still able to teach my class,and I’ve been able to arrange for the tow from my mechanic after class.If my car was meant to break down today,it couldn’t have been arranged in a more suitable place.Yesterday I was At a Wedding Party Imagine If it had happened there & my family would have been stranded on that Ring Road after wedding in the middle of night or What if it had taken place tomorrow at Gachi Bowli, where I have an key seminar to conduct".The lady's eyes opened wide, and then she smiled. I smiled back and headed for class. So ended my story.
I scanned the sixty faces in my Computer class.Despite the early hour,no one seemed to be asleep,they usually fall asleep in my class.Somehow,my story had touched them.Or maybe it wasn’t the story at all.In fact,it had all started with a student’s observationthat I was cheerful.
An Indian wiseman said, “Who you are speaks louder to me than anything you can say.”And it is known fact that everyone likes a cheerful person who is relaxed,confident,mature & dictates the positive vibes.People will want to hang out with that person more-there is nothing as attractive as a cheerful person.I suppose it must be so.I am going staying this way, with a few persons around me.My Family,Friends,Colleagues & Of Course MSians.
