Monsoon is knocking the door.

Are you ready for Rainwater Harvesting?

Water is lifeline of any civilization. If we look at history, we see all big civilizations grown around huge water bodies whether it is in India or Egypt or China. Adequate Water management systems we find in every ancient civilization. Rainwater harvesting was one of the practices in water management system.

Rainwater harvesting is about 4000 yrs old practice. It is not a new concept. We have forgotten few good old practices due to rapid growth of our economy. Due to rapid growth and availability of surplus cash enhanced our purchasing power. But, we should not forget one simple line “We Can Purchase If It Is Available”. So to make it available for the next generation we should seriously think of rainwater harvesting.

Rainwater harvesting is very essential to improve quality of ground water and to increase ground water level. Due to use of borewells, groundwater level is going down every day. In these process TDS content also increases and making hard water. In many places, you cannot drink borewell water. Best quality detergents cannot clean our cloths if water is hard in nature. So, to save our money, health and future it is essential to harvest rainwater and it is very simple.

Rain is the main source of water and mostly it is of good quality. Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting can be used to recharge ground water or store it for use it after monsoon. Housing complexes, School / collage buildings or any building with large roof can be used for harvesting the rooftop rainwater. It is very simple, just connect the outlets pipe from roof top to divert the water to either existing well/borewells etc or a newly constructed facility. You can hire a consultant to have specially designed wells for your society. State governments provide free consultancy service for rainwater harvesting.

Components of Rainwater Harvesting System

  1. Catchment Area - Roof

  2. Pipelines

  3. Sand filter

  4. Store or recharge water to ground

Benefits

  1. Rainwater quality is mostly good. We can use it even for drinking after proper treatment

  2. To prevent soil erosion, flooding and depletion of groundwater

  3. Inexpensive and simple technology

I have implemented one huge industrial rainwater-harvesting project at Savli near Vadodara. I can also help you to implement such a project.

One small initiative will feed good quality water to millions of people.
