Yes friends !! The Ace Khan is back with his critically acclaimed 'Raakh' all set to re-release in cinema halls this June, if media sources are to be believed. For those who haven't heard about the film, Raakh was Aamir Khan's second release (in 1989) post QSQT. Aamir who had a chocolate boy image with QSQT, dared to experiment right in his immediate next project.

I do have faint remembrances of watching the film as a kid at home with my parents, though I am not sure, how much I understood it then !! (Those days, I was totally in awe of Shah Rukh Khan and his performances in Fauji, Dil Dariya, Doosra Keval & Circus, who had become a rage on National Television in 1989 !! )

Anyways, somehow I did manage to get hold of the film recently and watch it as well - Courtesy Mr. Fenil Seta - Star writer, MS :-) The movie has an unusual cast with Aamir, Supriya Pathak, Pankaj Kapur, Naina Balsaver, Homi Wadia, Master Ahmed Khan etc.. Most of the crew members were debutants viz. Aditya Bhattacharya - direction, Santosh Sivan - cinematography, Sreekar Prasad - editing and Ranjit Barot - Background score. An example of dark, hard hitting, today's Ramu / Anuraag Kashyap kinda cinema, the film seemed ahead of its time, which probably might have been one of the reasons it didnt work out well that time.

But, I hope it strikes a chord with the audience now. Hoping for the best !!
