A slip of tongue can cost, someone, so dearly?

The other day, in my office, I had used a song from a Hindi film called - "Chasme Baddur", to describe the appearance of one of my friends without the intention of hurting him. I was deeply shocked when I discovered that my friend had taken it so seriously that it was good enough for him to presume my quotation, from the song, as a great insult and stopped talking to me. What hurt me more was that he did not even give me a chance to clarify my intention of having used the song to describe his appearance. Even a criminal gets the chance to appear for trials before he is convicted, I was not given any chance to even speak to him. As I have written in my profile everywhere, I have registered, I have been yet again misunderstood for what I thought was merely a pleasantry . This is the only darker side of my life. I become a victim of my own words, time and again, merely because my skill to communicate with others lacks the cliché rhetoric. Having said that it reminds me, " Three things never come back in life- Word, Time and Opportunity".
