Excellent and very comprehensive review. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and its great to read just detailed reviews after that, since one gets to relive the movie. This is a movie that I can watch again and again, just like I can watch Andaz Apna Apna, Chupke Chupke, Golmaal, Angoor etc.

Fully agreed, Maaz. Amitabh should get the best actor award for this year, since he acted very well. Also, Filmfare, Screen etc. will anyway not give it to Aamir (for 3 idiots) since he doesn't attend their award ceremonies!!

(last of my sections) The second and equally strong debate between the two brothers near the bridge, ending with the famous punch line from Ravi – “Mere Paas Maa Hai” - Vijay’s visit to the temple and his powerful monologue with God. - The sad scene as Vijay meets his end, in his mother’s ...lap. - A larger observation - the two boys, despite having been brought up together, in a seemingly similar environment, are very different in their outlook to life. And for understandable reasons. Vijay, being the elder one, has seen a lot of hardships in his childhood, since he was old enough to understand what was happening. He has seen how his father was blackmailed into surrendering everyone’s rights, the words “My father’s a thief” are tattooed on his hand and has left a permanent stigma on his heart, he has seen his mother getting insulted as she struggles for a living. Ravi though was too young to understand and was also shielded from the hardships due to his caring elder brother. Ravi gets the benefit of a proper education because of this brother, and learns the true virtues of life, without facing the cruelty of the world around him. Yes, this is a movie that I never get tired of watching, and am always in awe of the actors, writers and the director. If you feel equally passionate of this movie, do let me know in comments below. Actually, what has been published is only a little more than half of my review (because of size constraints). I had originally written a lot more on this. Please see below in this comment box and the one after this: Davar’s character in general. Despite being a smuggler and a so-called “big g...uy”, he is a person who respects people for their worth. - Vijay confidently striking a deal with Samant. When Samant seems to show an intent to kill Vijay after the work is done, Vijay reminds him of the story of the hen who laid the golden eggs. Samant’s nervous laughter and Vijay’s response are both good to watch. Vijay’s rise to success is very rapid, and yet very believable. - Ravi’s large-heartedness as he struggles to get a job, and yet gives a job away to another young man who seems to be in more dire straits than him. - Ravi’s realisation that his brother is a smuggler and his honest answer to his boss, revealing that Vijay is his brother and hence he cannot take his case. - The sad episode of the boy who gets shot in the leg by Ravi for merely stealing a packet of bread for his hungry family, and more importantly, Ravi’s learning that a crime is a crime, even if its done by someone very close to you. Ravi’s comment that “such a big learning could be had only from a teacher’s house” (I silently thank my teachers when I watch this scene!). - The powerful debate between Vijay and Ravi when the latter asks the former to sign a confession and reveal names of all his associates, and the strong-willed mother’s equally powerful assertion, as she decides to leave the house with her younger one. - The mother’s admission to her son Ravi , when she answers an old question of his – “who do you love more between the two of us”. She is honest in telling him that she always loved Vijay more, but her love is not blind. She knows what is right and what’s wrong. The clearest indication of the strength of her character. Aman, agree with your views. This movie was awful.
