I see from sajo21's comments that the 3.0l motor is an old design. While this might be well and good for the domestic Indian market, Tata has aspirations for export (although it would want to improve vastly on the Safari I owned- in quality, reliability and resale value- they were not cheap in Austr...alia and spares parts were ridiculously priced) it should be ditched forthwith. The 2.2 common rail 'under development' would be world class in terms of power output if 105kW is correct. My present 3.0 (an older Isuzu/Caterpillar design) puts out 107kW, non-intercooled. I'd imagine the Safari chassis would handle far more than the 65kW of the Safari and the 88kW of the Dicor. Many owners in Australia threw away the tiny (unreliable) diesel and put a Holden V6 in, with GM auto box- these motors put out around 150kW. Personally I don't think the brakes and handling were up to it, at least on the Safari. The chassis and suspension were good, if heavy, though. In summary, Tata really needs to lifts its game if it aspires to large overseas sales, the competition is far too good these days. Look at the new Ssangyong Kyron for comparison- price would be the same as Dicor if the latter were to be imported into Australia. Not that many dealers would trust Tata again after the disaster of the Safari and to a lesser extent the Telcoline utes.Read More

I have not yet seen a Tata Safari Dicor in the flesh. In photos it looks great, the styling is good and a nice upgrade from the earlier model (which was itself a handsome car). If Tata have retained the excellent headlights of the earlier car (the best I have ever used), well and good. Hopefully...Read more

I liked the comment that the Safari is so comfortable, that the owner could 'live in it'! With 80,000km up in merely one year, apparently he does (live in the car)! That's serious mileage, is this Safari a taxi?

I didn't make the comparison, my comments on the actual car (with 27,000kms of use) were in response to the claimed status of the Safari. I agree, comparison is ridiculous, the Land Cruiser is a completely different class of car, in size alone let alone price (even in Australia). Whatever the car... cost it clearly had significant quality issues, especially as the vehicle is sold outside India where expectations are high.Read More

The Tata Safari is a good car. It could be a lot better, especially if quality issues were addressed, and it gained some power (or lost some weight!) It most definitely is NOT a competitor for the Likes of Land Cruiser or Pajero. It simply doesn't come close in power, quality and pedigree. I ...Read more
