Behold the new power - commuter !! Yamaha SZ R
crossed 1700kms + !!!!!!!!
@giver99 I did a recheck of my mileage - I clocked 52+ kmpl !!! Guess our friend was right. I used the reserve to reserve technique. Note that you have 1.5l in reserve for this bike. Very impressive indeed. Normally you might not get 50+ before first service, but some report they did. Let me tell yo...u something, I started riding at 60kmph way before even reaching 1000kms - this didn't have an impact on the final mileage. The best part of this high torque engine is that you ride on a high gear most of the time as a result of which u will get better mileage - its works like magic for me. I normally cruies on nh to reach office - riding around 50 kms per day. My gears are getting harder - sometimes it gets stuck in nuetral when i want to shift from 1 to 2nd gear. Checked it out with the service guy - he tells me that as i keep riding it would settle down. I resetted my shock absorbers to ''soft''- another feature of the bike - if u have to tread on bumpy roads to get a plush ride.Read More
@giver99 - Fixed the headlight problem with the help of yamaha service guys. They simply tilted the head assembly downwards and nw it's fine. Suggest you follow it up with them (only, not the local mechanic ) completed the 1500+ kms mark finally.
@giver99 The service guys tells me that the fuel gauge is accurate only when u fill up for 3liters or more. When you do that keep an eye where ur needle points to - normally it should be in the red zone(reserve). Mark the odo + the quantity of fuel - Mileage is approx the total kms covered since las...t refuel / total fuel . This will give u only a rough sketch. This is called the reserve to reserve technique. I need to check it again , as I had earlier found it to be 45, but one of our friends says he's got 52, so this reserve thingy has tricked me , so does the poor accuracy of the fuel gauge. Hope this helps. BTW - I touched only 65, and boy, it's a smooth ride. I have already crossed 1000+ and dnt believe that u need to stick with 45 always on a new bike as those service guys should have test rided those new delivries for 50+kms to ensure safety that too at 100+. ;)Read More
@giver99 Haven't asked the service guys abt this, but yes i do agree with u, its dangerous even with the lights on. light weight - definitely yes, i find myself zipping thru traffic coupled with a good pickup evn against those apache / pulsar riders. I think they jus want to see the performance of t...he bike and let me thru to catch sight of it !!!!! Talk abt getting all the attention in the road. :)Read More
@shiva_shares If your asking the pattern of gears - it's 1 down , then N and the rest 4 up. Look at the stats given by Yamaha - Maximum output : 12.1PS/7500rpm ; Maximum torque : 12.8Nm/4500rpm . This means the bike has - ''High end torque on low RPM '' - meaning less number of gear shifts whilst ma...king your way through traffic. You would see a difference when u drive other bikes that starts giving the ''knocking sound'' instantly when u want to cruise at low speed with at a high gear. Maybe this feature is what your feeling. Of course I couldn't believe that there isn't much power felt when your in a high gear - that's what u get from the bike. Expect some changes after your services.Read More
@rbharathbabu : Well I calculated it to be around 45 kmpl. This should vary after my first service due for next week. Will keep you posted. Keep watching this space. Cheers . Sanjai

Behold the new power - commuter !!
(Updated Mar 10, 2011 09:31 PM)
After reading a handful reviews by some owners and also the road test reported by zigwheels.com, I finally zeroed in on the Yamaha SZ R - the new kid on the block - or atleast for now. Well, the first impressions of the bike are going to level up the rider's expectations but would eventually dro...Read more
