I was looking around for a L-Shaped Sofa and went to Woodpecker (new one near Porur) on Feb 12th. They had a 26% discount offer on display.
Though they did not have model I liked on the showroom, the rep showed 2 models in their website & I was interested . I told them "I will be back by the week end with my spouse and close the deal". Got a quote at 26% discount. I went on Saturday 23rd (still 26% was on board) with my spouse and we picked the Sofa we wanted & were not satisfied with the fabric selection, some they had , some they said they need to check etc... We were on our way to a lunch, so I offered to make a down payment to book the sofa, & said we can come back on Sunday and do the fabric selection. In fact I was ready to pay the full amount and place the order.
The rep specifically said if they take the order they cant change the fabric preference later and asked us to come on Sunday itself & do the booking.
We went back on Sunday(17th Feb) & went through fabric and made the selection again some where there some were not in stock , discontinued back and forth & finally when we selected, the manager came with order price which was 15 Thousand Rupees greater than the quote given to me under 26% discount.*
*He said the discount was taken away on Saturday and that was the last day. If Saturday was the last day of discount,
Why did the Manager or Rep not convey to the customer ?
Why they insisted on coming the next day to seal the deal ?
Why these cheap bait & switch technique adopted by such a brand name company ?*
I even went ahead and conveyed the complaint over phone to one Mr. Satish who said he was the Manager for both the Chennai branches. He offered to help and said customer was their best interest etc... and will see the best to honor the customer interest, and will work something with store manager and get back. The Store Manager did not even have the courtesy to call me and inform whether they could make the deal or not. After I called him later in the evening he said sorry he could only make that offer quite higher than the 26% discount one.
Totally disappointed by woodpecker Manager & his supervisor & the way all this looked like a cheap bait & switch tactic.
