Messed up iMesh software. Review on iMesh

INTRODUCTION

I love music. I love Indian film songs. I need to listen to many songs on a daily basis. I like to listen to many melodies. The same habit led me to iMesh. I spoke with many of my friends who used iMesh one time or the other and many bragged about how it is the next “Napster” and how it would over take “Kazaa” and all.

When I was a bachelor in US, one of my colleagues was using it to download software, when I visited his home a while ago. I was equally curious and was asking him about it. He went on and on about it. I asked him how long was he using. He said 1 week. Well, he was a trusted friend and I took his words in a verbatim manner. Curious as I was, I checked CNET’s download.com site and found out that it had millions of downloads. Impressed again! Wow. Read the reviews, it was upwards of 85% +ve (It is about 53% now). Impressed again. I thought well, this is the road to be. I had a cable modem connection. The download was Vroommmm. The installation was zoom. That is it. It was a path of a new journey. Created an id rapidly and downloaded many tamil songs and listened to it all the time.

14 DAYS LATER

Fast-forward and 2 weeks later, I am sitting at my machine, waiting for my PC to respond. I started seeing so many unwanted popups and relative slowdown of my computer. A lot of people connecting and downloading the files I downloaded. MP3s.

I check with my friend who told me about iMesh. He said, Oh boy! “ I Messed up” pal. IMESH Messes your mind. He went on explaining about how he downloaded the AVI version of the Matrix, when part II was released and how he downloaded it. In the end, it turned out to be a Swedish adult film. He mentioned how this software messed up his mind and how he uninstalled it.

I collated all the details I received and being a googler I am, I searched the net and downloaded Ad Aware 6.0 from lavasoft. After quick installation, I saw that there were so many spies sitting in my PC. Being a cable modem guy and a static IP computer it was, there were many spies on my computer.

5 runs of Adaware later, I decided to uninstall iMesh, Kazaa and its ilks. I re-visited http://www.raaga.comand found its new look refreshingly wonderful.

It was bye bye spies. Bye bye messers. Bye Bye Ad masters.

Installation – This is as smooth as most of the software offer these days. You need to make sure you disable file-sharing option, to use iMesh for download only. It is relatively quick download for any

Fast Search - This lets you search for files based on file names. If you are looking for music files, make sure you always search for audio files only. Most likelihood, you would end up downloading porn or viruses. You have 30-50% chance of doing that. All these Peer-to-Peer sharing software do yeoman service to anti-virus software companies and porn industry

Media Files Manager – This lets you manage your media files

Preview Panel – Lets you preview the files you downloaded. Especially the movie/pictures/audio files

Content Portal – This is a place where you can download files mentioned by iMesh. Imesh has list of standard recommendations. They are very reliable and you see a 5 star rating given by iMESH. You can go for these, without a hesitation

Ads – This is a headache you get, if you download the free version of the same. Ads pop-up all the time.

Advanced Resume Feature – Sometimes this auto resume feature can take months. Many times you end-up downloading 80-99% and the source machine is done and you will never think of seeing your file again

Third Party Programs – You get third party programs such as GAIN, Gator, MySearch and all. If you want the master, you need to get all his chamchas as an add-on.

ANALYSIS AND CONCLUSION

IMesh is “pretty as pretty” does. It is sleek, fast and lovable for ease of download (to a certain extent). What makes it very interesting is the additional nightmares it brings on. You can possibly get almost all audio/video files and software, based on the time of the day. What makes things?

iMESH is meant to be a good P2P sharing program. Somewhere along the line, the idea was revamped by the user base.and the use of it If you want to have a clear conscience and a nice frame of mind, do not go for these sharing programs. You end up getting a lot more than what you intend for. I meant if you want piece of mind, you end end up getting the contrary. Beware of Loss of Temper, Headaches, Viruses on your computer, Loss of clear conscience and disturbance as direct consequences. To top it all, loss of money as an additional software costs. IMESH does come with paid version that lets you have more privacy and ad filtering, but at the cost of USD$25 per year. I haven’t used it as I decided not to have iMESH on my computer ever again.

Don’t forget the McAFee or Norton Antivirus along with a personal firewall and security pack, if you are planning on using one. Also add the Ad-Aware professional version too. All this for the sake of listening to music? No way.

RECOMMENDATION

Please stay away. Pay good money and get legitimate software. Get CDs and legitimate MP3. Go to Raaga.com and listen. Have a clear conscience morally. Stay away from the bad. If you have will and time to skim through the garbage, go for it, Otherwise it is a BIG NO-NO from me.
