Lets say, I am an online kind of guy. Except for working, almost everything is online for me. Includes shopping and eating.
My first online food order just amazed me, smart, on time, etc. etc. But trying out Zomato was an experience I want to share today, as I dont want anyone else to face a similar harrowing evening ordeal.
I wanted to try out Zomato as I wanted something new. So I ordered an evening meal, a one dish fare of Mongolian Chicken fom a well known restaurant near me, last Holi, at around 6 in the evening. As the restaurant was just about a kilometer away, I reasoned that about half an hour it could take for the food to be delivered, at the most.
Even then, they asked for another 45 minutes, due to heavy rush. I agreed. Time went by, and so did patience. I rang up Zomato, chatted them up, only to be said that the food was on its way. And, at around 9, they called me up and said that the delivery guy had lost his way, right on the main road, close to my place, had gone back, and that I would have to order afresh. Surprisingly, let alone GPS, this guy wasnt even carrying a mobile phone! I curtly replied that if they could deliver within the next 30 minutes, I would pay, else to consider the order cancelled. Of course, the food never appeared, and I was forced to go out and get food from wherever I could. Finally, at around 11 at night, someone called me up from their end, asking for direction. I declined with caustic words.
Later, Zomato tried reasoning with me that it was not their fault. I discovered they used different delivery channels for different restaurants, and mine was untrackable. All this in a big metro like Kolkata. Try apologizing as they may, I will never pardon Zomato for ruining my evening, meal and all.
