What is ZINDA?is Zinda a senseless,useless flick in which the actors and actress are running around trees and hopping from one moutain to another.The answer to this question is a big ''NO'',infact Zinda is one of the finest Movies ever made in Indian cinema.
If you think that Sanjay gupta is just a director,then let me clear this misconceptation,he is not just a director but also a master craftsmen,who has crafted his works over the years.Sanjay gupta,a Maker who has always believed in Swimming aganist the tide.And this time Gupta is back with Zinda.
STORY
zinda narrates the story of a fun loving software expert BALAJEET ROY(Played by sanjay dutt) Bala for short who is living with his wife Nisha (celina) and who is also expecting a child,but suddenly the life of bala changes,he finds himself locked in a room,and the only connection to the outside world is Television set.Intially he is very sad but then he accepts it as a challenge and learns Martial arts(with the help of Tv).14 Years since Bala was in that room,suddenly he is released,but now bala is no more Human being but he is now animal,a Painless and heartless animal.Who was the guy who locked him up for 14 years and killed his wife,then with the help of his Childhood friend(mahesh Manjrekar) and Jenny (lara dutta),He comes to know that the curpit is Rohit(john abraham).But why did he do that to bala?why he killed his wife?.That is the story of Zinda.
The best part about Zinda is its lenght(1 hours 50 min)and its fiery pace.Sanjay gupta who was critised in the past for his story-telling,in zinda he is complete form.In fact Zinda ranks amongest one of his best works till date.Yes,Zinda boosts up with various sequences which leaves you awe-struck and you cant help it because Gupta doesnt gives you an other option.
The sequences that are noteworthy in first half are:
The scene where sanjay dutt pleads to the faceless guy that why he is locked from 3 months.
The scene where he refuses to eat the food.
The chase sequence
The scene where dutt pulls out RAJ ZUSTHI'S teeth.
But its the second half that takes the Graph even-higher
The first-meeting between John and dutt.
The sequence where raj-zusthi tries to pull dutt's teeth.
The climax ofcourse,the highpoint of the film where dutt daughter is left unharmed by john abraham.
PERFORMANCES
Now coming to performances,Zinda completely Belongs to SANJAY Dutt,no doubt on that.Dutt who came up with Second-rate performances in Shaadi no.1 and other films,he comes up with a performance for which he will be remembered for ever,Known as always as a power house of talent,Dutt adds a feather to his cap.AWARD-DESERVING PERFORMANCE.
In Zinda,John abraham delievered his Finest performance ever till date.His Sequences with Dutt are electrifying.
celina is just about ok,while Lara dutta puts in Sincere attempt.Mahesh Manjrekar is just amazing to watch.Raj zusthi is Highly-Effective.
CINEMATOGRAPHY,BACKGROUND MUSIC AND EDITING
The Cinematography is simply Outstanding,the blue and gold effects are visual treat.The music of Zinda may not give teens a chance to shake their Bum in discs but still three songs stand out,YEH HAI MERI KAHANI,HAR SAANS and ZINDA HOON MAIN.''KABHIE MUSKARKE''sung by dutt is also good.The Background music is Superb,Complimenting the sequences at every step.Editing is sharp.
DIALOGUES,ACTION
Dialogues are excellent at places,especially those delievered by Dutt,John and mahesh Manjrekar.Action scenes are awe-inspiring
ON THE WHOLE,ZINDA might not appeal to many people,but I dare to say,that it is one of the best movies made ever in Indian Cinema.Not only that Zinda is a landmark in Indian cinema,WELL-DONE SANJAY GUPTA,WELL DONE DUTT.
