Of late there have been few movies in Bollywood that went off-track from the normal typical bollywood movies, they have been ''so called theme based movies'' concentrating fully on a particular theme. Zinda is another brave attempt to make a theme movie and lemme tell you its a good attempt as well. I liked Kaante, Musafir was just okay but I can say this movie as the best movie by Sanjay Gupta till date. He might have taken the story from some spanish or whatever movie (as given in TOI) but the story is new to us and more importantly the 2 hour movie goes well on its own pace. I must say that it deserves a 4 star given by TOI (Bangalore).

Storyline:

The story starts with a software engineer Balajit Roy (Sanjay Dutt) living happily in Bangkok with his wife Celina Jetly and then suddenly the man disappearing and being put in an enclosed room (can call it a cell) for fourteen years and one day he has been released with some money in his pocket. The man has spent 14 precious years of his life in a room and still he doesn't know for what reason he had been put inside. During his 14 years' stay in the closet Bala prepares himself for the meeting with this guy who has made him suffer like this, he wants to meet this guy the day he releases him. And when Bala comes out, he has no clue what so ever of where to start from to get to reach to this guy. The story describes how Balajit Roy comes to know about his long wasted 14 years, who his enemy is, how he traces out his enemy and what happens in the end. And watching the movie is the best thing for knowing all these things.

Direction:

Every person grows in his profession with time, so has Sanjay Gupta. When I thought of giving the title ''the best Sanjay Gupta movie till date'', I thought for sometime and then finally went ahead with this title. The direction of movie was fabulous; I would not like to mention each and every aspect of the direction from Sanjay Gupta rather would suggest you to watch the movie to let you people judge whether I am correct or not.

Performances:

You can't compare who is better when both of the actors perform so well, however I can eloquently quote this movie as one of the best performances by both Sanjay Dutt and John Abraham. Before this movie I appreciated (read: liked the most) the role of John that he played in Dhoom and I must say that this performance is slightly better than what we saw in Dhoom. Sanjay Dutt was fabulous and more importanty it was not a typical Sanjay Dutt, it was unlike Munna Bhai MBBS, it was Unlike Musafir, the character required something different and something extra from Sanjay and he delivered it. However the story revolves around Sanjay Dutt and John Abraham, there are few more characters played by Lara Dutta (the cabbie girl and confederate of Balajit Roy), Mahesh Manjrekar (A friend of Balajit Roy) and Raj Jutshi (A villainous character); All of them have performed good but the best performances come from both the lead actors.

Music:

Music in this movie is given by 3 different composers: Strings, Vishal-Shekhar and Shibani Kashyap. However music doesn't play a major role in this movie, still there have been 3 songs put in the movie; few of them are good and picturised beautifully and at the right time which adds the impact of the pain that Balajit Roy is going thru after being released. The string song (Yeh hai meri kahani ...) is the best among the lot and is the best picturised song of the movie. Shibani Kashyap song is just enough to be said as good' Overall we can say that music is good

Pros:

  1. A good storyline which doesn't go beyond the track.

  2. Good direction from Sanjay Gupta.

  3. Minor technical things have been kept in mind while making the movie from editing to lighting to special effects. You wont find many minor technical faults here.

  4. Most importantly the performances from Sanjay Dutt and John Abraham.

Cons:

  1. A bit too much violence at times.

  2. Its not everyones' cup of tea; its not a movie to watch when you want to enjoy, rather a movie to watch when you want to watch a good movie.

In the end I would like to say that if you have 2 hours, this movie is a must watch (or at least can say worth watching).... The action packed thriller is a sign of the growing bollywood, I would love to watch more of these kinds.

Ratings and comments are most welcome....
