As a dark, twisted and intelligent piece of genre filmmaking -zinda works on various levels...

Sanjay Dutt is an IT professional married to Celina Jaitly, living in Bangkok. His best friend, from school days is Mahesh Manjrekar. His life takes an abrupt about turn when he is suddenly whisked away one day and incarcerated for fourteen long years. In the interim his wife is killed and he presumed responsible.

In those 14 years he prepares himself to one day meet his adversary and settle scores with him and when he is abruptly set free one day he sets out to do just that. But first he has to find him, this becomes his only mission in life. He is helped on and off by cab driver Lara Dutta.

He finds John Abraham easily enough but then begins the game of why. This goes back to his school days .......

With a constantly moving camera and a dingy look that recalls the work of western director David Fincher, zinda is, at least for its first half, a tour de force for its director. Frequently, surprising and rapid CGI effects disturb the balance in the camera setups and there’s a great little gag or two where what seems to be the film’s score is revealed to be a diagetic sound effect.

With a compelling central performance from Dutt, more than able support from sexy and the suitably enigmatic john, quality production design and cinematography and an eclectic and effective score, the only quibble one really has is with the slightly too contrived set-up: a film like zindaa can get away with implausibilities, thanks to the presence of an overtly supernatural villain - you can assume that the devil can work a little miracle as and when.

Oh, and the ending... Just, whoa. That was one of the best (if not the sickest) payoffs I have ever witnessed. The way the tables turn so often and so fast made my head spin. I mean, the ending is just so... So fing wrong. So many levels of wrong. Oh man.

I am shocked after seeing the ending so

Let me take this time to put out an apology to all those I may have wronged in the past. If there is anybody out there reading this from my college, high school, or even grade school years whom I have pissed off for some reason, please... PLEASE give me a chance to formally apologize before fing me over as bad as sanjay was.
