Foooooooooood......................... Review on Zen, Connaught Place, Delhi NCR

Hi there people , I am back with my daily review to bore the wits out of you...........

First time I am doing a review on a restaurant , I had to choose Zen because it is simply excellent .

Here goes , located in the CP inner circle Zen is one of the oldest restaurants around in that area . If you can negotiate thru the intricacies the wonderful traffic in that area (God knows what it was like before CP became one way) you have a decent parking lot in front.

Once you get into Zen you are greeted by woodwork and interiors which go back about 50 years .No I am not saying its bad , they have a HUGE wood carving hung up on one of the walls and by the way the walls are of solid wood .Its almost like going back so many years to what CP would have been like at the time of our moms and dads . You really dont see anything of this kind any more. Seating is on a mezannine and the ground floor . What is slightly wierd is that the seating plan looks exactly like the seating plan of United coffee shop , Hmmmmmm same designers maybe :-D . They have the bigger tables in the center , which seat between 6-8 and seats against the walls which seat 4-6 . The good part being that for the romantic kind there is seating available with partitions in between , well you dont get a room but yes it does give some amount of privacy (Does somebody...ok anybody... get a hint ??????? :-D )

Now for the food and the drinks part , starting with the booze (Look at my Id , you'll know why I started with booze) . They have the standard happy hours , I think till about 7:00 Pm , during this time you get 50% off .The Happy hour menu is pretty restrictive . They do have a decent drinks menu available , none of those fancy cocktails though . What we have to keep in mind is that this is not a pub and is a proper restaurant with a full bar , so you are not going to get a liquor menu the size of an encyclopedia :-D . Prices are very reasonable.

Service does lack a bit but it is made up in more than enough ways . Yes they do have a margin of improvement there .

Music , again you have to remember this is a restaurant , you have the normal instrumental music playing in the background , no loub music. The music does suit this place pretty well.

Now for the fun part , the food , like people said save the best for last .Firstly they have a huge food menu with a wonderful selection . Two things which immediately strike you when you order the food are the prices and the size of the portion when you finally get it. Prices are very very decent and the portion , well HUGE !!! .All this and the order normally does not take more than 20 mins to complete .The first time I went there , I was alone , (poor me ) and without realizing I ordered a plate of prawn fried rice and a chicken dish (Dont remember the name , all of them have those fancy chinese /japanese names) . I just could not finish it however hard I tried . That was food enough for atleast 3 people. It came piping hot and believe me it was as if it came from China or Japan . It just did not taste anything like what you get in the normal run of the mill restaurants . It really did leave a very distinct taste and something which atleast I would remember for a long time . I have had authentic chinese/japanese food and the food in this restaurant is the closest I have ever gotten to it . Till date I have liked chinese food only in very few restaurants , Zen definitely takes the cake for being the best amongst them. This is one restaurant I would recommend with all my heart .

Please do keep in mind guys , I am only human (well there maybe a lot of people willing to dispute that) , what I like maybe hated by someone else ....so if you want to throw brickbats , please do warn me ...I can go and hide somewhere ...Mommy they are throwing brickbats at me !!! :-D .

If you are looking for a decent chinese restaurant with excellent food , go here , I really don't think you would be disappointed at all. Normally reservations are not required , the place is huge , won't hurt calling up and finding out before hand though .

Again , if you are in a mood to party , boy !! Are you at the wrong place .... :-D .
